I think the narration of this song is directed towards whoever his first love was, or whoever took his virginity. "People see no worth in you" could be referring to a prostitute, or someone with loose morals, or just anyone who isn't well respected. Yet because they were such an important first for him, he sees their worth and would cherish more time with them |

I don't think this is uncharacteristically optimistic for the smiths as someone mentioned earlier. I think he's telling himself all of these things. This is, in my opinion, the most depressing Smiths song. |
