I'm probably wrong, but I think this could be about someone having to go fight in the war, and not being able to provide for his family back home. I really don't know, but that's the kind of feel I get from this. |

| Parkway Drive – Hollow Man Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I polished these a bit to make it easier for people to read. Lies. No more than shadows to be forgotten. Fade away in time. No more than shadows. Their dreams will never come to pass. Trapped by your web of ignorance. Trapped by your web. Your web of lies. Too much pain. Too much anguish already endured. More fear than a person should feel in a single lifetime. And they've come so far. Given it all for this second chance. One second chance at life. Hollow man. You've gone too far. Secure in your safe little world. You have no idea the amount of pain you cause. Since when is a child a risk to your security? Your razor wire and red tape killed their dreams. |

99% sure that this is about a man who murdered a child. Most likely a specific case that Winston wrote about, but I don't really know. I believe "Hollow Man" would be referring to his lack of emotion. Someone who cannot feel sorrow, regret, remorse. I really don't know for sure, so if I sound like an idiot right now, I apologize. |

| Parkway Drive – Smoke 'Em If You Got 'Em Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I wonder if it is really about the psychological effects on the soldiers, or if "Do you see their faces when you fall asleep at night? Now they're nothing more than blood-stained memories." is directed towards the leaders who are to be held responsible for the continuation of the war. Being that this was written in either 2003 or 2004, it could be directed towards George Bush. As if Winston is attempting to make Bush feel guilty. In the video, the main character guy could be someone responsible for the war, while the people standing around him are all of those dead from the war's casualties. That's not really my belief, I actually think it's about the psychological effects on the soldiers, but it's a thought. |

| Parkway Drive – Idols and Anchors Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This song is about following someone with high expectations for them. The intro verse is about the leader dying/falling/whatthefuckever, so the follower gives up. Basically, don't let anybody lead you. It's fine to have a role-model or someone to guide you, but ultimately, you must guide yourself. If one domino stands next to another, and the other falls, chances are they both fall. The anchors metaphor was just a reference saying that leaders hold us back. |

| Parkway Drive – Boneyards Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I really don't know. Maybe Winston was just in a mood when he looked at the world with a cynical perspective. As if he just wished everyone would go away. If I'm right, he's sick of everyone taking taking taking from the world, and never giving back. The "sailor's grave" and other references to death are just the wish that all of that would just end. Kill 'em all, haha. I think he uses a bit of reference to karma, "don't say I didn't warn you", "blood debts remain unpaid". Kind of saying that we've fucked this world up, so now this world is going to fuck us up. Tsunami waves. Hurricanes. Those that survive and remain afloat would be shark food. Truthfully, these sort of things are actually happening. Hurricane Katrina, Tsunami in India, etc. Maybe Winston was looking back at those incidents and basically saying "Yeah, you deserved it". |

| Parkway Drive – Anasis (Xenophontis) Lyrics | 15 years ago |

If you really feel the tone of these lyrics, it's quite easy to understand the meaning. The base of the meaning is simply that someone has went through a drastic change in their life, and discovered the truth, but the truth truly does hurt. To go into further detail, this is indeed as TEAMHATE said, about a friend of Winston's. There are many churches and Christian denominations that truly, and with all due respect, act in absolutely ridiculous manners. They tell you so many things and so many children grow up hearing these things from their church and family, and they simply become brainwashed, leaving room only to think of these ideas. The main idea that a Christian church gives out is that Christ will someday return to Earth and "save" all whom truly do love him. These people then devote their entire lives to this religion, expecting that one day, they will see a true compensation for their dedication. Some eventually grow to discover that everything was simply a lie. There is no God, and Christ will never return, as he was merely human. He has given everything, and it was all for nothing. It simply tears one apart. Now, to fully interpret the lyrics:  "Your warm embrace has been replaced by cold." What once was so important has turned out to be worthless. "And those defiant eyes have fallen, broken by the floor." He simply feels like giving up. He's broken. His entire past has been a lie, constructed with hopes bearing anticipation. "Another rain-streaked face left alone to drown in malice." "Another" obviously meaning this has happened in the past. A "rain-streaked" face, implying that he's wept excessively over this issue. He's now on his own, left to weep over his own regret and the "malice" of those whom lied to him, "malice" being the intent to harm another. "And your bleeding heart can only heal so much." This pain will be with him forever. A scar, if you will, within his past, and no matter how much he tries, he'll never fully get over this. "We can't weather this storm of longing." Much a similarity to the previous line. This pain will be with him forever, and nothing can break that. "And water cannot cleanse the blood from our past." I think this is referring to Baptism. If so, then this is simply stating that his past cannot be "fixed" by anything, in this case, Baptism. Though I must admit, that's a strange lyrical transition, so I'm probably wrong. "Can you hear your crying wish? Because your prayers remain answerless." This is simply saying that all of the times he has prayed, everytime he's went to God for help, no one heard him, because there is no God to hear him. "Your prayers remain. In sweet decay. Your prayers remain. In this sweet decay." Basically, the same meaning as the previous line. "Your love failed me." Christians say that God's love is unfailing. Now that he has seen the truth, he's mocking God, despite the fact that he has realized there is no God. I guess a simpler description would be that he's upset because God did not come to his rescue. "Broken hearts and shattered dreams could never carry your fractured world." What is being said isn't hard to determine, but who's saying it, and who the line is directed to has confused me. I'll just make the assumption that it's simply stating that he can't continue living with his own regret like this. "So just throw it all away." If I'm correct on the previous line, then this is simply stating that he needs to forget about his past and move on with his new life. "Your love is lost on us." Once again I think this is just a mockery of God, stating that he no longer loves him. "Just throw it all away." Previously stated. "Your love is lost on us." Previously stated. Remember, I'm not 100% sure of my accuracy with this interpretation, but I've done my best to this point. If your opinion differs, I'd be happy to hear it. I too was once strong in my beliefs with Christianity, though in recent times, I just seem to have lost my faith, and I'm not ashamed of that. |

Desolated is correct. Really, quit reading their lyrics and immediately assuming that the song is based upon a break-up. Why would Winston write about break-ups when he's been with his current girlfriend for (and correct me if I'm wrong) about 8 years? He wouldn't, and he doesn't. In fact, I don't think there is a single Parkway song that is about a break-up. Most of what Winston writes is about true issues that effect us all, yet so many tend to ignore the issues. His lyrics are obviously angry and aggressive, but that's only to be expected considering the ignorance of so many people in this world. I can understand why people may confuse his lyrics and interprating them as writings of killing someone or writings of a past girlfriend, but none of his songs have anything to do with either of those subjects. |

| The Devil Wears Prada – Hey John, What's Your Name Again? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I haven't read any of the previous comments, so I'm trying to interpret this with my own knowledge. Anyway, here it goes: "The concept of fashion is the one to blame:" People desire looking fantastic rather than being fantastic. In other words: Move over penance, here comes fashion! "painting the portrait of conviction-less existence." People have begun to think that as long as they look alright and dress in a way which they can be accepted by a certain group, they won't face hardships in life. "Well, it must be difficult being so gorgeous." You always hear girls (and today, even guys) complaining about their hair being messed up, their jeans are "so yesterday", and pleading for imperfection. All of the amazing things they have are overlooked by the things which they do not have. In other words: They are ungrateful despite having been blessed with so much. "claiming to be the kings and queens but it's all of nothing." They feel as though they must be better than anyone else, despite the fact that this truly means absolutely nothing in life. "this shall pass megalomania." In past times, the main problem in the world was the desire to own everything. To be the possessor of all things was of such importance to so many, despite the fact that it meant nothing. Fashion will, if it hasn't already, soon override that and become the world's greatest desire. Obviously, this isn't what we should be yearning for. "congratulations on mutiliation for a life." God has given them life. He has blessed them with so much. He has given so much potential to them and yet they use it for wrong things. This most likely pertains to "sloth", one of the Seven Deadly Sins. "i'm going to hope for you, i'm going to pray for you amongst the wreckless and the black." This one is kind of obvious. He realizes that those who hold fashion higher than all other things are wasting their lives. He prays that they one day wake up and realize what they are doing wrong. "salvation lies within." This means exactly what it sounds like. "my time is your's my friend." Once again, very obvious. "we all find ourselves so horribly weak." This one made me think a little harder, but I think this is referring to his hope that those who do wrong will one day recognize themselves and change. "(Oh God,) here's an offering." ? I never really understood this one. |

| It's syrup, rofl. Sorry, but everyone who says it's anything other than syrup sounds like an idiot. Sweater? ROFL. He doesn't say it like "serp". He pronounces it as "ser-up". Listen to it: "Aunt Jemima really loves me 'cause my ser-up is so hot." Sweater made me laugh so hard. =] | |
| The Devil Wears Prada – Salvation Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I am pretty sure that this is referring to the Day of Judgement. Jesus Christ is descending to Earth to bring home all of his children. Maybe the person who says "Excuse me stranger, what are you embracing?" is unaware of all of the goings on. The "stranger" whom he is speaking to warns him of what is happening. I also made this assumption based on the fact that the song title is "Salvation" and it is the final song on the album. This could be referring to the end of time and the beginning of eternity. I love this song though. The instrumentals have a beautiful flow to them. =] |
