I kinda figure the song is about someone who's finally found a kind person who honestly cares about them, but life has already beaten them down to the point were they either think they are unworthy of compassion, or simply just don't know how to handle it. After all the main part of the song is carrying on about how he's a cold broken cynical wreck of a human being, and the chorus is telling her to walk away, and how she can't possible under stand the way he sees the world. Of coarse when someone gets beat down that far, they tend to avoid any human contact, so this song could apply to any kind of relationship wither it be a lover, or just a concerned friend. |

i can almost see the nonconformity thing in there, but this song seems a little to deep and emotional to be the standard, f*@k society heavy rock. plus all the references to trying to please every one and fighting losing battles don't quite fit. my take on unforgivin is this. boy starts off life full of naive innocence, thinks he can change the world for the better. people take advantage, and the world is way to messed up for one person to fix alone. young man is getting to be cold and cynical but keeps fighting the good fight out of stubern determination if only because someone has to do it. eventually he puts so much time in effort into trying to please every one and fighting loosing battles, that all that's left is a broken empty shell of a human; an old man before his time he longer gives a s*@t, the world has sucked sucked him dry, and beaten him the point where he longer has enough fight in him to bother picking him self up. then again maybe I'm just reading my own life story into this; that's the cool thing about truly great art, every one has there own interpretation and it always tells you more about the mind of the observer then it does the creator. that's why i like bands such as tool, perfect circle, and smashing pumpkins; their artists first, musicians second. |

i to blame mtv for lack of good music. when all you heard was voices on the radio, you had to put much effort into writting good music. with music videos you just need a pretty face, and some coreographed dance moves, which atracts your attention from the fact that it all has the same sound and theme, with diferent lyrics, and no pasion what so ever; oh and half the time they lip sync. thats my two bits, if any one starts singing "vidio killed the radio star." i'll send them a comuter virus. |

i don't know why every one seems to thnk self mutilation, the bragging show off qualty makes me think of a couple adrinalin junkies showing off old balltle scars. this one came from rings, getting sucker punched with brass knuckes, this one an acident,crashing your motor cycle trough a depatment store window, this one had it coming, never grab a girls ass when her boyfreind is 3 times your size and standing right there. and that last part about this one was the last one, i don't remember how, i remember wind rain and i never saw it comming again. well safe bet that little accedent was fatal. but thats interpitation. |

the song is not about over barring parents or drug adiction or anything else, it is quite simply about bush running everything into the ground, and every one blindly fallowing him to the dooms. this was one of the few instances where maynard gave a strait farward anwere to. any one who doubts this meaning sould see the music video. famly in front of tv, bush shows up and his eyes spin hypnocly, famly turns into sheep, and marches out into the street to fallow bush with all the onther sheep. everynow and again a sheep tries to stand up and be human, only impale with amercan flags by a giant hand with patriot act written on the side. and the very end of the vidio the sheep march of a clif and into giant meat grinder. no room for interpitation. |

i believe this song has a couple of diferent messages, on apersonal level the artist is wondering if god will hold his bitter cynasism against him since it is infact a byproduct of the harsh life that god inflicted on him. and on global scale he's pionting out all the ugly things manking does to it's own, and saying that if god really cares than why all the suffering. then good mesure it's all wrapped up in analogies from milton's paridise lost. all together it a supreme work of art. |
