| I totally agree with you. "A simple land we must change... For man... is God" definitely sounds like the ideology of Freemasons. The song talks about how the Freemasons know what is coming and write about what do to and what we need to change it. Very interesting. Is Tommy a Mason? haha maybe he just read the new Dan Brown--Amazing book by the way. | |

I don't think that this song is only about a girl I think it's about the different aspects of life as a whole. He see's someone he once cared for get married and now he's alone in his bed, as does happen with many people in life. He has friends that "can't swim because they are dead, we never are what we intend" would mean that everybody has dreams and do many dreams fail and people give up on life. Then he talks about making little lies and pulling them apart, which could mean that he enjoys or at least has a habit of lying and deceiving people, something many people do when they are insecure. The chorus represents the aspect in life that if he wanted to die before he got old he would be on his way out right now but instead he is living life just like everyone else. Carrying the box to its proper place and knowing that person would do it for him could represent a son carrying his fathers coffin to the grave as pallbearers do, hoping they would return the favor if it was him and the coffin. The drugs on a silver plate metaphor represents the same thing, doing things for the benefit of someone else with the hope that they would be treated that way in return. All in all, these metaphors represent the philosophy in life where people do good things for each other and thats kind of human nature. Then he references animals dying. Both animals are killed by humans, the dear shot by a hunter (human and/or greater creature than the dear) and the dog hit by a car. Both can allude to survival of the fittest and the idea that every day people and things die. In both ways, the animals "spilled their guts" as millions of animals and people do every day. Then "we used to speak about the Father, Son and Holy Ghost and which songs we loved the most" represents how everybody converses with each other whether its something as complex as philosophy and religious beliefs or if its just about common interest such as music, but in the end we all "turn to dust and dirt." Some men under the mountain looking for gold and some die looking for a hand to hold- he describes how everybody is different in what they seek happiness in. Some find happiness in life by having a lot of money, some find happiness in love and there are many things that make people happy in general. Then he describes how he will explain himself on the other side, meaning he believes that there is a heaven and that he will answer to God when he does. Overall, everybody goes about life in their own way. Everybody lives differently, has different interests, and things happen for many reasons such as killing for food (the dear and the hunter) or killing happens by accident. There are so many aspects of life that occur every day and I believe that is what this song is about. |
