I think this song is pretending to be something you're not, particularly Christian- but a small twist on the words can cause it to mean anything. The first verse is talking about a person who is not part of this society where not being Christian (symbolized as potpourri) isn't acceptable, so after much badgering they agree to give it a shot. In the chorus is about how they actually do give it a try, and for a moment they're hoping it really is reality, so that they can live happily. However, they feel nothing from it (a hush crawling from my spark), but pretend to feel it so they can live in this community peacefully. The next two verses are then going into the extreme sense of Christianity, because they're afraid they're too casual about, people will know they're faking. "Come, come hear it calling..." etc is then their inner desire for freedom from this so they can 'feel alive' again, but decide that they should wait, because if they stop in that community, it'll cause more trouble than it's worth. |

What something means to one person might be differently to the next. This song could easily be about sex (or rape), vampires, murder, an abusive relationship, or just animal instinct itself. "Caught up in this madness too blind to see Woke animal feelings in me Took over my sense and I lost control" Sex is a regular animal instinct, and when lust washes over hard, it hits hard. Sometimes you'll to to the extent of rape to satisfy that need. In the case of vampires, there are some that are able to hold off on getting hungry by drinking bits at a time, but perhaps this one hasn't fed is so long. Therefore, it's desire for blood has been initiated. When angry, people's first reaction is often to hit, hurt, or kill. That too is animal instinct- when you swat at a wasp, does it not want to hurt you? In abusive relationships, one little thing can set the dominating man (or woman) off, and makes them want to hurt their partner. These lines call also just be general animal instinct, too, of course. "I'll taste your blood tonight" Yes, this can relate to sex. Sadists and masochists, or just someone very angry is bed, bite. Sometimes hard enough to draw blood. Vampires- Welcome aboard, I'm Captain Obvious. Murder? Well, there's often a lot of blood when people murder- stabbing, breaking skin, fighting, etc etc. Abusive relationship: "You've defied me and you need to be punished". Could mean taking a girlfriend's virginity (blood is involved in that) or just generally hitting them. Animal's instinct is to draw blood when and if they can. This could also be taken figuratively; tasting revenge, hearing screams, etc. "You know I make you wanna scream You know I make you wanna run from me baby but know it's too late you've wasted all your time" A rapist giving the victim a chance to run, because they know what they're doing is wrong, but they can't help it and the victim is too scared to move. However, this can also be interpreted by a partner telling another partner how they're feeling, and they only have that moment to back out of it. A vampire can be seen in the same light as the rapist after hunting down a victim. Same with a murderer. In an abusive relationship, it's more like the dominating person is saying they had a long time to leave them but never did. As humans, we just like to hear screaming as in instinct a lot. "Relax while you're closing your eyes to me So warm as I'm setting you free With your arms by your side there's no struggling Pleasure's all mine this time" Sex/rape: If you relax it'll all be easier. "I'm setting you free from your virginity." In terms of regular sex, the woman has her first time and it all seems to be pain, so the man is the only one with pleasure. In terms of rapist, that's easy. Vampires: 'Closing your eyes' could be the (human?) death of the victim. The 'so warm' could relate to the blood in the mouth, as the vampire is setting the human free from his/her life/ from the human limitations. There's no struggling because they're already limp from bloodloss. Murder: Closing your eyes is the dawning of the death; the warmth is the blood most likely being spilled. The pleasure is all of the murderers, because aside from the murderer, who would enjoy it? Abusive relationship: the submissive person relaxes because they knew this was going to happen, it happened before, and it'll happen again. They're already used to it. They close their eyes because they don't want any visual memories. And once more, the dominating one has all of the pleasure to him/herself. General: Humans are built to be selfish; they want to be the only one. I think that's what those lines are portraying. "You know I make you wanna scream You know I make you wanna run from me baby but know it's too late you've wasted all your time" ^Same as before, except maybe they (the rapist, vampire, etc) are verbalizing it. "Cherishing, those feelings pleasuring Cover me, unwanted clemency Scream till there's silence Scream while there's life left, vanishing Scream from the pleasure unmask your desire perishing" Sex/rape: The pleasuring feelings are, most likely, the rapists alone. otherwise, two people cherishing the pains are joys of sex together. In terms of sex, masochism where they're screaming until their voice is hoarse and they can't anymore. The desire for intercourse is unmasked by the two of them. In different views, the rapist wanting them to 'scream while there's life left' doesn't have to be literal. Many rape victims become depressed, suicidal, etc. The 'life left' could be their happy life, now that it's been turned upside-down. Vampires: Feeding for a vampire probably feels pretty good, I'd say. And since most vampires hate humans, they'd long to hear the screams up until death. Murder: Well.. Murders probably like to hear victim's screaming. That's all I can think of here, aside from 'unmask your desire' is talking more about the murderer. Abusive relationship: In fits of rage, s/he wants to hear the submissive one screaming, without realizing that they're killing their partner. General: It's human instinct to love screaming when you're angry, and to scream when being hurt. "We've all had a time where we've lost control We've all had our time to grow I'm hoping I'm wrong but I know I'm right I'll hunt again one night" Sex/rape: Often, lust is when you lose control. All of those hormones are released, and what can you do about it? Nothing. They all had a time of growing, where they might be able to tame those hormones, but disregarded it. Now they're regretting their actions, and knowing that with the untamed beast inside of them, they'll go out 'hunting' for a pretty lady/handsome man next time it goes out of control. Vampires: Quite obvious, lost control of it's hunger, and as much as it hates it, it knows it'll have to do this over and over. Murder: Yes, I'm sure everyone has had a time where they punch, hit, slap, kick, or otherwise hurt someone from losing control. Some murders are the same. And since they knew they did it, they know they'll loose control again and kill someone else if they get too angry again. Abusive Relationship: The dominating person realizes what they've done and allows their partner to live, but knows deep down that this may or can happen again. General: Realization that everyone's inner beat will appear, and that it'll happen more than once. "You know I make you wanna scream You know I make you wanna run from me baby but know it's too late you've wasted all your time Cherishing, those feelings pleasuring Cover me, unwanted clemency Scream till there's silence Scream while there's life left, vanishing Scream from the pleasure unmask your desire perishing" Same as before. |

Judging by the song lyrics, it is no doubt about abuse to children in the Catholic Church. Right there is one reason I don't believe in the Christian (etc) god; all of the hypocrisy. And yes, the last line is about them 'washing away their sins' through confession or holy water. |
