Who do you all think Sydney is? Ex-girlfriend? Childhood friend? I don't know exactly why, but I've always thought it felt like this song was about, say, a favorite niece - someone younger than the singer, still in school, innocent, very important to him, but not quite as close as a daughter of course. And I like the story that that tells. But does anyone know who Sydney is supposed to be to the singer? |

And a correction: "I don't wanna *fight* anymore If it's about a platonic friendship, then this might as well have been written for me and my once-upon-a-time-and-hopefully-again-to-be best friend. Pretty much the only inconsistency is the name Laura. |
