| "lying like lions out in the sand" is a reference to hemingway's "old man and the sea" where the main character dreams of lions on the beach three times, remembering his youth. i think here it's just saying they're young and enjoying life and war disrupts that. | |

I believe it's "my toes grazing the cedar" because he's floating up the stairs (like a ghost). I think I read that this album is about the narrator's relationship with a ghost. To me that's clearly what this song is about specifically. I absolutely adore this song - it's probably one of my favorites off the album. It's so lovely :) |
