| I think charliegnarly is right. Just because this site is for analyzing doesn't mean you have to create meaning out of what the artist didn't mean. If you take the song at face value, it is obviously a rock star living out a fake lifestyle. The third verse seems to be the rock star having a brief glimpses of the 'real' emotions that normal people feel. | |

i think reckoner is another term for love. You can't take love with you, and Thom is singing about how we lose love so easily. Love is dedicated to all human beings to enjoy but often we screw up. But Thom's saying its not our fault. Love is distracting and causes so much emotions that we can't even dare speak its name. My favorite part is of course Thom's beautiful lines about the rippling love causes when two lovers separate. But in the end, Thom still wants to take love with him. man, i sound like a total mush. but that's just my two cents. |
