Okay, I think it’s safe to say this is about a problematic relationship. The amazing thing about these lyrics is the amount of interpretation that goes along with them. They can either be interpreted as truthful and heartfelt, or sarcastic. They can also be from either partner’s perspective (assuming a traditional relationship, the man or the woman). And this is where it gets a little confusing; it can be a truthful man, a sarcastic man, a truthful woman, or a sarcastic woman. Personally, I think it’s from an honest man’s perspective. In the verse he talks to himself and in the chorus he talks to the woman. The different tones heard in the singer’s voice are probably a result of the many emotions he’s experiencing. I can relate to these lyrics so closely it’s almost unnerving. Going through the exact situation myself; at first I thought it was for the best but I’m starting to have serious doubts =/ Can’t exactly press rewind though, can I? Either way, amazing song! :D |
