Jars of Clay – Liquid Lyrics 16 years ago
So I'm a music major studying for his music history class, and I just had a funny experience.

We're currently studying Gregorian Chant, and I'm listening to one of the listening examples - it's a sequence (a genre of chant used as a part of the mass in the middle ages) called Victimae Paschali Laudes - and the second line is the exact melody from the song "Liquid" by Jars of Clay. I haven't listened to that song in probably 10 or so years so it's like a crazy deja vu (sp?) flashback thing all of a sudden (ok so maybe that's a slight exaggeration). So I look up the J of C song and sure enough, Jars of Clay sampled this particular line of chant from this Sequence.

THIS is what the guys in the background are saying at the beginning of the song! The fact that it sounds like a sample from a recording of Gregorian Chant explains why it's so echo-y and hard to understand (they're speaking Latin). Fortunately, my textbook has a translation of the text, which is: "The Lamb has redeemed the sheep; sinless Christ has reconciled sinners to the Father." Fits in pretty well with the rest of the song, eh?

Well, this whole experience was so unexpected, I just had to put it out there in hopes that someone else benefit from/care about this information.

explosive donut, there's your answer, 3 years later...I wonder if you even still care, haha. I, too always wondered what they were saying.
