| GNash – I Hate U, I Love U (feat. Olivia O'Brien) Lyrics
| 9 years ago
|
"According to Song Facts, O'Brien originally penned the tune, but Gnash added a verse and created the new arrangement. The song's words stand out above the quiet, handclap-style beats. Gnash and O'Brien exchange verses and she takes the chorus: “I hate you, I love you / I hate that I love you / Don't want to, but I can't put / Nobody else above you / I hate you I love you / I hate that I want you / You want her, you need her / And I'll never be her.”
On Genius.com, Gnash explained the meaning behind the song. “Olivia feels used by a person & relationship, but still misses them dearly, and doesn’t see the end of thinking about it all the time,” he wrote. “This really sets up the dichotomy of the song — the happy sad feeling of knowing what you miss might not be what’s best for you, but also accepting at the same time that either way, no matter the amount of time, it doesn’t seem to feel any better.” He added that the lyric “I guess this is moving on” is a direct reference to the line “I guess this is growing up” in Blink-182's 1997 hit “Dammit.” " |

In short this song is about the saying 'You have to go through hell in order to see something amazing.' ie you have to be at the bottom to see the top. |

Yeah I have to agree with some that just cus they are a christian band they said this album is about life's hardships so yeah. I found out about this band by a friend showing me the song and I love it and honestly it sounds like its about a relationship. Since I didn't know they were a christian band I didn't think any of there songs sounded like they were about god and then I learned it and honestly almost nothing changed. |
