I think hemlock echo is onto something here. Lemme put mix it up a bit please. Forgive me if this sounds too far-fetched. (This could be about a woman but I'll say it's about a man for the description) I think that in this song, somebody lost all of his stuff. Perhaps he was robbed. Perhaps a flood, or a tornado, whatever. Anyway, this person liked his possessions a lot. And I think this song holds all of the things he has learned since he lost his stuff. The man was far too obsessed with losing his possessions and he should have taken the fact that he lost all of it as a sign that possessions don't really matter. He's breathing life into ghosts under rocks. Who notices ghosts under rocks? He's putting a lot of meaning into things that don't mean anything. So he ignored the lesson he was supposed to learn for a year or so. And he eventually realizes the lack of value in possessions. |

Well. I think a clearer picture is made if you watch the music video. Obviously the character is in love. He goes to her door with flowers and words to say to her. He's nervous as hell. He knocks on the door and her sister answers. I think this song is about him waiting there for his love with that girl's sister. "How long am I supposed to wait?" his mind is going off on different tangents. Like his eyes may be dark due to lack of sleep so he's worried she'll notice. It's a stretch but if you imagine the situation it may make sense. Great song. |

Oh, and analyzing that last part before the final chorus. Beginning with "I could tell you were there".. He finally got through to her and they both know that feelings are still present due to the incredibly little time that has passed. But because they aren't back together, he wants something that'll make him finally believe it's over. |

I'll make the voice talking be a boy (seeing as Miles is singing. But it could be a girl's voice). This song is about a boy telling a girl that even though not a lot of time has gone by, it seems like they have been apart for so long (apart as in broken up). He sees through the illusion of time and realizes that he still has feelings for her but she keeps on thinking that years have gone by. He looks into her eyes and yet they somehow aren't open. He's trying to open her eyes. Not sure if that's even close to how it was supposed to be written. But that's what I got out of it. Great song. The only 'genre' I could classify Ra Ra Riot as is 'beautiful music'. |
