| Arcade Fire – Headlights Look Like Diamonds Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This was the first song Win and Regine wrote together. On their first date too, which is just so adorable I could gag. Anyway, taking this into account, I think some of it points to the beginning of a relationship. I can see where it could relate to a relationship at it's possible end, but considering the context, I think it points to a start. "Tell me how this story ends, And I'll keep them fires burning" seems like one asking another if they see a future together and then further saying they're in as long as the other is. There is also a bit of urgency in saying "before the fires go cold." The last two stanzas are so cryptic though. Could really mean anything. | |
| Faded Paper Figures – I Fell Off My Name Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| How does one fall off their own name? It's not like it's that high off the ground. Wear a helmet. Or some elbowpads because I always fall on my elbows when I fall off my bike. | |
| Arcade Fire – My Body Is a Cage Lyrics | 14 years ago |

This is all a rather out-of-the-blue interpretation, and I really haven't listened to this song very much before today. But I think it is more of a spiritual relationship than one with a girl. I think it might be something along the lines of the speaker wanting to believe, or be closer with God but is being caged by his body. Like it's hard for him to just believe. I get the idea it's more spiritual when he talks about "the stage of fear and self-doubt," and the "living in an age that calls darkness light." Then when he says "just because you've forgotten doesn't mean you're forgiven." This could be, just because one's forgotten guilt of sin or something doesn't mean that they've been forgiven by God if they haven't sought forgiveness. "I'm living in an age still turning in the night but when I get to the doorway, there's no one in sight," could mean that he's trying to believe but can't quite get to the point of pure understanding and faith. At the end when he realizes he's dancing with the one he loves, this was a bit confusing but my first impression was that maybe "the one he loves" at this point of the story is bad, or disbelief, or sin, or SOMETHING [I dunno :P]. Then the whole "set my spirit free" thing seems pretty obvious. Plus, this song makes brilliant use of the pipe organ found throughout Neon Bible, but this song seems to have the most abundance of it. But also, it's known that, while the band has a somewhat "religious" background I guess one could say, Win Butler said he doesn't exactly believe that everything in the bible should be taken completely literally [shown with "Neon Bible"]. So maybe this is kind of a satire and everything I just said isn't meant to be taken literally. Dang it, Arcade Fire. |

| Coldplay – God Put a Smile Upon Your Face Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I think this is way more simplistic than people appear to be interpreting it as. Basically, pressuming there is a God, there should be no reason for us to mope around and say we're going down, considering He created us, gave us style, grace and put a smile upon our face. "When you work it out I'm worse than you"- I think this is more of a personal note, saying that he has his bad times just as well as others, and it appears he's almost saying there's nothing to complain about in the last stanza, that is. Don't say your going down when there's no reason for you to be, God gave you grace. There does, however appear to be an ammount of agnostic thinking involved, which may be in simple consideration to the fact no one knows from experience. Though, I don't know. XD |
