Other than the concept BoboThePanda said correctly, that the band endorses, the alterior message is that Religion is corrupt (especially extreamist ones- evangelical, Shia muslims ect.) ; its in decay like government. These two major things that take people philisophically and by thier hearts; Two things that will lead the general public blindly about by the hand and whisper, Just listen,dont second guess me,or your gunna end up regretting it, are detrimental to society as a whole. And while they preach rhetoric and bark lies, society crumbles morally. " I wanna know whos allowed to BREATHE (not breed). all the dogs that never learned to read? Missionary politicians, and the cops of the new religion" New religion speaks to the thinning line of the seperation of church and state. Therefore, the constitutionally seperated branches fusing creates a "new religion", and the cops are its leaders who feel they are superior and only they should concieve. Its almost calling these degenerated aryan. great yet basic instrumental, excellent lyrics, and empowering atmosphere. good job Green Day |

This song has a very unique and indepth feeling to it. It belittles you into liking it. Its evident that the songs objective is to discredit humanity via very true insights. Also it reaches into the topic of humanity needing control over everything despite us knowing its not possible. We are a high and mighty species that are convinced the earth needs us to save it, when infact in order for it to be saved the earth needs us gone. " Can you summon the sun from its sleep? Does the earth seek your council on how fast to spin? Can you shut out the gates of the deep. However the first verse of the song is that really touches me the most in a profound manner. " All you great men of power, you who boast of your feats Politicians and entrepreneurs. Can you safe guard your breath in the night while you sleep Keep your heart beating steady or sure?" - Despite all your "power" and "accomplishment" you cant even keep yourself alive.
