The theme of "Get Out" is of an observer watching religion destroy his life and the world around him so he responds defiantly: "Oh, my god is gone and I, I was helped by no one. Oh, I, I've taken what I need. Shut the door, shut the door and I leave. What's in store for me? Gonna listen and not preach. There will be erased, all mistakes are out! Get out! Get out! Get out!" The fashion in which the singer pronounces "erased" as "e-race-ed" gives the song a blasphemous King James feel which makes me believe the lead singer may be addressing God directly but the line, "gonna listen and not preach" may mean he's directing his accusations toward local religious leaders such as a preacher or minister. Another possible interpretation of this song is along the lines of the Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil" as Satan stands by and watches humanity's struggle in life: "oh, and I, now I sit back and watch, watch the sneak attack. Oh, I could have warned them of the plan. Oh, what fun would that leave for Man? What's in store for us all?" |

I interpreted it in a much more negative light; it seems this song is about an alcoholic or junkie promising they'll stop taking the drinks or drugs but never coming through. The imagery of water makes me think this is referring to alcoholism. He says all these things in a moment of desperation that he'll be better soon ("all the fallen leaves will find their branches again") but never commits to a time when he'll actually become sober ("in another week, promise? In another year, I promise?"). The junkie/alcoholic is actually attempting to fool his loved ones who are begging him to change his ways but in the end he needs to make the promise to become sober himself. In this song he's saying "put YOUR right hand on my heart" instead of his own which means he will not stick to the promise to become sober. |

I just heard of these guys and they are excellent! Another horribly unknown but shockingly awesome song by these guys is "Get Out" which is shockingly not on their debut LP but was included upon their self-titled E.P. Awesome songs. |
