It definitely sounds like it's about his daughter. He's talking about her growing up and moving away. He's written other songs about her, Amber Jean for one. |

Apparently he had a fever of 103 when he wrote this, so if the lyrics don't make too much sense, that's why. |

Turquoise Boy is a deity from Navajo legend. He helped create the world, and eventually was turned into the sun. Maybe that will help. |

| Thee More Shallows – Fly Paper Lyrics

I feel like this is about a guy who wants to go through life passively (the bear, watching life pass him by) because he's become cynical about the world. He might have some sort of phobia or anxiety about people. The fly in the title is the main analogy for this- he says that he avoids "making connections", stating that the fly did so with the fly paper and died. Also, the seagull and tin foil example shows a suspicious mind, and he clearly states that he "steers clear of everyone". But the final verses show that he realizes that he must interact with people, comparing the difficulties of life to the racetrack. He would like to be the noble figure of Charlie Heston on the beach, but he knows that he must become the ape to survive in a modern and social environment.
Whew, that was longer than I thought it'd be. |

| Thee More Shallows – The White Mask Lyrics

It sounds like a near-death experience to me. The guy's in a hospital waiting room, then he goes through a really trippy experience that sounds kind of like the Greek representation of death (standing on a bank in the dark) and talks about meeting God, until he sees a white mask. Possibly a doctor's mask? It's just a wild guess, but that's my interpretation. |

This'll sound weird... but I really think she sounds like Judy Garland on the bonus track version of this. Just saying. |

This makes me think of a woman waiting for her sailor to come home from a voyage. She's watching the sea, hoping to see his ship and wondering if he'll make it back. Beautiful. |

I think this is about World War 1... it really sounds like it's about a war. Poppies are a symbol of World War 1 because they grew in Flanders field after all the blood spilled there, so that's my interpretation of the title. |

About a woman seducing a man (ex-lover?), even against his will. She sees herself as a witch and she's haunting him. |

This reminds me of Death of a Salesman... a guy who sold himself out for a shot at the "American Dream" and has nothing now... To me, he seems to be about to kill himself(hammer clicks in place) or go on a killing spree. |
