i find this song to be about two people that were in a past relationship when he says.. "Whose the one I see, Across the table, Eyes that always seem, so familiar" to me it sounds that hes saying that its a person that comes in goes in his life when he says,"eyes that always seem, so familiar". and when he talks about a compromise i feel he is talking about if they have both realized the feelings they still have for one another.and all through the chores he speaks about if they could stay the same..meaning that he really still has strong feelings for her and he wants to be together and maybe she doesnt..and so on..its a sad and desperate song with a feeling of heart felt love and no being able to capture it or atleast have the other one feel the same..to me..its a song of my life.. |

i don't believe this song is about him being mean..i believe he respecting her and saying that they both thought it could work and that he wouldn't do anything to hurt her and he did. and hes apologizing that he hurt her. i think that when he says.. "And there I am on my knees Beggin' for forgiveness Beggin' you please Just like I always wanted but I'm so sorry" he is saying that he wants to get on his knees and all that..But he cant do it. and these are the reasons..
