La Roux – In For the Kill Lyrics 14 years ago
It's about taking a chance. She knows that you should fight your desires if they're illogical, or if you don't know whether you should trust a person - but she decides to take a chance and 'go in for the kill', and all she can do is hope that the person will understand and feel the same.

La Roux – Growing Pains Lyrics 14 years ago
I think maybe it's to do with one of those fun, heady relationships. You fall quickly and it ends quickly. And all too suddenly she realises that truth.

But it's not just that, because the whole growing pains chorus seems like a completely different thing to me. She's trying to voice her feelings, crying out for help and understanding, but the other person won't take her seriously - it's like trying to say you feel lost, upset or depressed and the other person tells you 'oh, it's just your age' or 'it's because you're a teenager, it's a hard time' etc.

La Roux – Cover My Eyes Lyrics 14 years ago
I think it's pretty obvious what this is about, but I'll say what I think anyway.

Obviously it's unrequited love, she wants to see him, to be with him - but at the same time it hurts too much knowing he'll never feel the same way about her. That's why it hurts to look in his eyes, to see him with someone else. She wants to see him, because she loves him, and seeing him is a high, but she also knows how quickly he can (and will) take that high away from her, when he makes her realise that he'll never feel the same way. And she just wants to be comforted.

It's a song that we can all relate to. Which I think most of La Roux's songs are.

La Roux – As If By Magic Lyrics 14 years ago
To me this is about someone that just lives inside their head. They've been through too much and they don't want to dwell on it anymore or be in pain anymore, so they block it all out from their mind, don't let themselves think about it, and think of other things. They tell themselves they're fine, they're stable, they're moving on - but because they live inside their head, and keep everything locked up inside, their thoughts constantly changing, they get confused and never quite know how they feel, their thoughts end up contradicting each other.

I don't know if that makes sense, it's not really how I wanted it to sound. I think this is a really hard songmeaning to describe.

La Roux – Armour Love Lyrics 14 years ago
I don't think this is so much about a lover leaving her, but more, she's met someone who's already in a relationship. I think this guy is probably a bit confused and lost and not the happiest person himself. Although it may not be satisfying or he may not feel that strongly for his girlfriend, the relationship is stable and comforting. So when he meets her (the singer of the song) he puts up his defences even though he has feelings for her, because he's scared of the unknown, scared of leaving his girlfriend for something more uncertain. He does it because he's scared of being hurt, but she knows she'll protect him and she wants him to realise it too. She's unhappy and feels alone in the world, and he knows it, yet he still goes back to the security of his current relationship, believing that that's where he should be, and leaving her alone. He's confused (life is tangled) so he tries to hide himself, hide his feelings, put on an act, and she wonders why, because she knows she'll always be there for him. She tries to show this to him, but still he goes back to the security of his current relationship. And maybe for a second he thinks about being with her, but then he goes back to his current relationship, not ready to take a chance.

So basically, it's about someone trying to get another person to take a chance and have faith in them, but the person never will.

La Roux – I'm Not Your Toy Lyrics 14 years ago
To me, this song didn't strike me as a gay relationship, or a boyfriend-girlfriend thing, but the usual thing of being messed around. But maybe that's because it's similar to what I'm going through at the moment. That's what I love about La Roux, it's so easy to relate to everything she writes. So this is what I think:

Your love is like a stubborn youth
That you'd rather just deny

The guy (we'll say it's a to make it easy, but obviously it could be a girl) will not ever say that he loves her or let himself love her. He probably doesn't want to love, likes to be free and single.

I'm walking on a broken roof
But I'm looking at the sky.

She's going through a lot of crap and confusion (the broken roof), which he's putting her through, and she knows it. Yet somehow, she still tries to fool herself that everything's great and will turn out alright (looking at the sky).

It's all false love and affection,
You don't want me, you just like the attention
Yes, it's all false love and affection,
You don't like me, you just want the attention.

All the love and affection that he shows her isn't really true, he probably does like her a bit, but not enough. All the love and affection he shows her isn't because he loves her or wants to be with her - just because she's another girl he fancies a bit and he likes the attention she gives him.

I'm not your toy; this isn't another girl-meets-boy
I'm not your toy; this isn't another girl-meets-boy.

He's messing her around, and she thinks to herself 'i'm not your toy' because that's the way he treats her - she doesn't want to be just his toy to play around with when + how he feels like it. And although she might want it to be, she knows their situation isn't a true girl-meets-boy story, because to him she doesn't really mean anything. She's angry and upset about it and is indignant that she won't be his toy anymore, even though she knows she probably will.

Your love hides in a smoky night,
I can never find the truth

He keeps everything mysterious and plays her hot and cold, so she never really knows the truth to how he feels about her.

Boy, your touches leave me mystified
I wish I could believe in you.

She loves his touches but they also leave her with mixed feelings - she doesn't know what he means by them, and she wants so much to believe in him, to believe that she's important to him and his feelings for her are deep, but she knows she can't.

It's all false love and affection,
You don't want me, you just like the attention
Yes, it's all false love and affection,
You don't like me, you just want the attention.

I'm not your toy; this isn't another girl-meets-boy
