| "I played this Christmas show for this benefit last year, and they asked me to write a song for the benefit. They only gave me, I think, 3 days to do it; so I was trying to think of something, and I didn't really want to do the Santa Claus thing. I had read this story a couple months prior to that about this boy who was kidnapped from his home in Cheyenne, Wyoming on Christmas Day. | I thought to myself, with Fred being a 'minister,' as he calls himself, and me being a spiritual kind of guy, I thought, I can't predict the future and I can't see inside of any people or anything, but what if Jesus were faced with Fred Phelps? How would a conversation like that go, between Jesus and Fred Phelps? So I thought about that for awhile ... and it seemed to me the right thing to do when I wrote the song, all things being equal, it felt like the most poetic thing to do to write the song as a 50s doo-wop love song to Fred from Jesus." | |

It's definitely about Christina Onassis -- PG says so on the 'Kiss in Time' album. She was the daughter of the man who, at the time, was the wealthiest man in the world. Despite that, she led a fairly tragic life. She was married and divorced four times, and died at the age of 37 when her daughter was just 3. PG is using Onassis' story to ask if you can really trust anyone enough to love them. "If you had the real thing, how would you know? / Liars can say it all just as well." |

Saw JJ explain this song: As he was growing up, his mother struggled with her health, and would always tell his father that if she were to pass away, she would want him to go on with his life, remarry, be happy, etc. This song kind of envisions that scenario, where someone has passed on to "the other side" and is seeing their loved one go on with their life with someone else. |
