Taylor Swift – Breathe Lyrics 16 years ago
This song reminds me so much of my breakup with my first love. I think it's about the kind of breakup you subconsciously know is coming: "Every little bump in the road I tried to swerve", "Nothing we say is gonna save us from the fallout". She really articulates the sense of hopelessness/disorientation that comes with losing love: "I don't know what to be without you around", "You're the only thing I know like the back of my hand", "It's 2 AM, feelin like I just lost a friend", and of course "I can't breathe without you, but I have to".

Fabulous song. The thing about Taylor's music is that the hurt in it is both tangible and accessible.

This song is about first love. Falling in love with someone you could've sworn you'd be with forever ('back then i swore i was gonna marry him someday') before you even know what you're meant to be.

All the novelty and wonder of first love that eventually fades for everyone. It's funny; we all think it'll last, but for almost all of us, it doesn't. We all think we're different, though.

In the past, she's been too dependent on her love:

"Do you know where your heart is?
Do you think you can find it?
Did you trade it for something, somewhere?
Better just to have it"

He's telling her to be more independent, and to let go and fall in love with him.

Taylor Swift – Cold as You Lyrics 16 years ago
i can totally relate to this song.

i was so in love with my ex. he "came easily to me" and the relationship took the "very best of me" because i wanted it to last with all of my heart. however, when he got ready to go to college and leave me behind for my senior year, he started acting coldly towards me and his "walls" were even harder to break down. i would pick fights to evoke emotion from him. he was scared, and i wasn't what he "wanted" right then...he wanted to experience college without a girlfriend, but he did love me, which is why he faked it for me. he'd fake that everything was fine when we both knew it wasn't. his "smiles" were "condescending" because he didn't even value me enough to bring up what we both felt. we broke up, and at first, i didn't blame him, but then i realized that he had treated me badly just because he was scared. i cried over him because i loved him so much; i'd never been anywhere "cold as him".

truly in the best days, it was perfect, but the ending was as sad as a "rainy day". it really was a shame, but the weather taylor writes about in this song is uncontrollable -- just proves everything is circumstantial. sad song, but beautiful.

Coldplay – The Scientist Lyrics 16 years ago
For me, this song hits so close to home right now.

It accurately describes the nostalgia that comes immediately after a breakup: "Tell you I need you / Tell you I set you apart / Tell me your secrets / And ask me your questions / Oh let's go back to the start"

The part about "guessing at numbers and figures" and the recurring theme of science and logic vs. human emotion really gets me. I tried so hard to ensure my relationship work by "guessing at numbers and figures", trying to figure out a "formula" for the perfect relationship. Even so, it didn't. Chemistry (no pun intended) between two people is not enough.

Even after a breakup, it is human nature to want to understand WHY, hence "pulling the puzzles apart", etc.

Fabulous song, and very true.
