Probably my favorite song from this album. --I think this has been mentioned before, but I believe some inspiration for a few of the lyrics came from the children's book 'The Little House'... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_House One of the main visual motifs throughout the entire book is of the daisy. It even mentions when the little house is in the country it is on a hill surrounded by 'a field of daisies with apple trees growing around.' One of the main themes of the book is the negative aspects of development and urban sprawl. Eventually the little house curious about the approaching lights of the city, actually ends up in the city over many years of development: broken, empty, and forgotten. But the daisy along with other symbols is seen as a sign of life and rebirth of the little house. |

For me, this song completely describes how hard it is to find happiness in this world. People try all sorts of various things to find just a little happiness. 'Paint yourself white, and fill up with noise' --speaks to me about an individual who isn't satisfied with just being themselves or is unhappy, but must be buying material things: new clothes, car, jewelry, the latest electronic gadgets to try and make themselves happy or find fulfillment. But still 'something is missing'. I think the title 'Nude' can also refer to how some people search for happiness through sexual means. Either pornography, one-night stands, affairs, etc but in the end the pleasure or happiness it brings doesn't last. Now that you've found it, it's gone Now that you feel it, you don't You've gone off the rails Again, happiness and feeling good in this life is only temporary and doesn't last. Whatever idea or scheme you come up to make yourself be happy and feel good, if it works, will only work a little and for a short time. So don't get any big ideas... You'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking -- In the end, you're most likely to have self-condemning guilt about what you did or how you acted for yourself. Even if you did feel good in the moment, your brain is already burning about your selfish actions and you'll probably have negative consequences to deal with or worry about. |

| for me, i always interpreted this song as 'the tragedy is what sells', 'the bad news is what makes good news', or in this case a fiery crash...the media loves to blast us with the terrible news. it reminds me of walking through an airport and CNN reporting on an airplane crash...i thought it was interesting that i always have that fear of the plane going down in the back of my head at all times because those are the only ones we hear about on the news-- not the thousands of normal flights that occur every day. | |
