The Decemberists – Foregone Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I'm pretty sure this about the birth/conception of Colin and Carson's son, Henry, as a sort of prequel to Rise to Me |
Arcade Fire – Rococo Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I Honestly think it's as simple as hearing a pretentious kid try to "use a word they don't understand", rococo, and then writting a song about it. |
The National – You've Done It Again, Virginia Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Personally, I see a loose connection to the Albee play "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" in which the charachter Martha drinks copious amounts of liquor after learning she is unable to have a child with her husband George. As a result, they invent a child, tying in with the lines "you can reinvent yourself" and "you can talk to people right? You can tell a story." Also, the "Made another masterpeice while I was dreaming" part could refer to Martha telling and elaborating the couples story to strangers they met at a party, whilst George plots to kill the child off in a car accident. Probably not written with that in mind, but a comparison none the less. |
