Dave said (as posted by intothegrinder2) "'On The Mend' is kind of old, it's an older track that was written probably four years ago or something like that. It was written in London. I wrote it sitting in a hotel room." Going by this comment, I think this song may have been written in response to (but maybe not directly based on) Taylor ending up in a coma back in 2001. Dave seems kind of evasive in the quote, but still specific, like he knows exactly when, but doesn't want to say. The timeline fits and the subject matter suggests something like that to me. The point of view and somewhat romantic feeling? Not so much :P But, I do think Dave tends to be more general than specific in his songwriting, so I don't know, but I think it's a possibility, they're good buds so the song may have partially come from that experience. |
