| I'm assuming that bandana.mama said "the line about Good King George is obvious" he/she meant that it was referring to George Bush (as the rest of the song is). I disagree, as the song is a comment on the state of America at the moment disarray, crime etc. i believe "Good King George" is referring to King George III who was the British monarch at the time of the American War of Independence, possibly meaning he'll wake up screaming (In his grave) "oh dear look what they've done, we really shouldn't have let them win it - look at the mess they've left". One intepreation of this song is slighty deeper than the "being with the one you love" (i.e. wife, girlfriend etc.) Richie himself says that when writing this song the only person he thought about being with was his father (who had just died). Makes the middle eight (i think haha) especially more poignant When you get to the gates And all the angels sing Go to that place Where the church bells ring and know I'll come running Running to find you Great song any way you interpret it though :) |
