From the imagery in this song i always get the feeling its about a musician finding fame, working their way "up" so to speak, (Riding into the sun) from other smalltime acts (hence repeated use of "above" in the first verse) and other musicians being envious "Above the clubs and microphones Above the jealous mouths" and also the downsides of being out on the road touring and being away from loved ones "That's where you found yourself Riding into the sun On a raft made for one" and finding that it isnt all its cut out to be and its a lonely place to be. But doesn't it get lonely Riding up there to the sun On a single raft for one Don't you wish for someone Thats just the impression it gives me anyway, such a beautiful song and amazng lyrics |

Love this song, a few small corrections; I'm tangled up in blue* And there ain't nothing new I just want to come get my fangs stuck in you* I* shoot them all gladly I also think that it is Tried to steer men* to your beaten path for bad company I also agree with caleyboyer that it should be I hear 'em callin you out.... I'm here, I'm callin you out... Any ideas on what this song is about? i have a few rough ideas about the character in the song has been driven to murder, by Dottie, who seems like she is controlling him to kill for her own pleasure? i also get the idea she is a prostitute, or she has affairs with other men, and thats why hes killing them. it seems as though this is written like a letter to her, from the killer perhaps from prison, or a confession of some sort. thats just my thoughts on it, i could be completely wrong, but either way this song is amazing. |

I think this is pretty much the right lyrics, some of the words were hard to hear though so any corrections please, in terms of interpretation i dont really know have many clues as to what it means, but from the verse "man that ocean there has a stale taste of a centurys old war, where it was either all for one, or one on all fours" i think theres some sort of allusion to the slave trade there, but the rest of it is hard to interpret for me. I dont think enough people have heard of Cecil Otter, his lyrics are amazing. |
