| Frank Ocean – Pyrite (Fools Gold) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I can relate to this. I feel like this is Frank's version of Slow Dancing in a Burning Room by John Mayer. Frank loves a woman. Whether or not they are currently in an actual relationship is up for argument. Regardless, he is noticing that the feelings of love between the two are becoming less mutual - "Am I in this by myself?" This, of course, saddens him and is something he would rather not accept. He tells himself "maybe I'm crazy" but he justifies his feelings by noting that even a fool can tell the difference between pyrite and real gold. He slowly becomes more certain of this feeling as he reflects on her actions and words, and it kills him inside. "I need some time ...[to] cry." By saying "my heavy heart can't carry blame for the loss," Frank is explaining how he had to tell himself she was to blame. To think that something he may or may not have done caused her not to love him is too much for his heart to take on top of that fact. The last verse is Frank desperately asking the woman to love him again, even when he knows it is pathetic to do so. He's got loads of pride and can't stand to so vulnerably show himself, but he needs to know he tried everything he could to save the relationship, or he will regret it later on. He needs her - she is the enormous sun and he is a puny candle - but her entire mass is burning up before the wax of the little candle is. It's not fair and it doesn't make sense. |

| Childish Gambino – So Fly Lyrics | 13 years ago |

"And I don't really understand the thing we had I wanna try again, but it would just be sad" ohh donald. listening to this line makes me think of a past relationship and get bummed... but I still enjoy listening to it haha. |

| The Black Keys – Gold on the Ceiling Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| In the book Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison, the character Pilate has a tarp hanging from her ceiling which the protagonist Milkman believes contain gold. He steals it at one point in the novel. That's what I immediately thought of when I saw the title. Probably has nothing to do with the song. Just throwing it out there. haha | |

I am not a Mariners fan. I did not know who Niehaus was before hearing this song. It still gives me chills. |

| Macklemore – Wings Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Pretty obvious, but its really about consumerism and how companies like Nike really sell us a brand name and nothing more. It starts at a young age, their advertising sucking you in - kids want to be cool and be like their favorite athelets. Kids are told that they need the brand name to succeed. VERY, honest and real song. |

| Kanye West – Dark Fantasy Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I believe the line in Kanye's second verse is: "re-stop the ignorance, re-kill the enemy" At least, that's what I hear... |

| Black Star – Thieves In The Night Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Dame Autour, that's a perfect summary. Absolutely one of the most powerful, beautiful, and intelligent songs I have ever heard. It never fails to give me chills. I think the beautiful language and message have to be credited to Morrison, not to take away from the obvious lyrical and artistic genius of Talib Kweli and Mos Def. Perhaps the greatest accomplishment of this song is its causing a desire in listeners to read "The Bluest Eye" and furthering the messages which Morrison originally created. This, in my mind, will forever be the legacy of both Talib and Mos. Long live true hip-hop. |

| Matt Nathanson – We'll Recover Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
One of my favorite Matt Nathanson songs... Everyone who's ever been in an on-and-off relationship can completely relate. "And when we can see things clearer Than we think we see them now Maybe kiss each other sweetly without trying to bite down Maybe then all this will be better And maybe then we'll recover" The song is about a failing relationship but he doesn't want to accept the fact that it's not going to work. He keeps trying - they take breaks until they can "see things clearer", desperately hoping the relationship will recover. "It's funny because I promised myself That this would never happen again I'd been warned and I'd been told, But it's these moments of clarity that cripple me most" The couple keeps taking breaks, and he starts to promise himself that they won't get back together. His friends tell him that they're going to since they are always on and off. The moments of clarity where he realizes he wants to get back or wants to take a break cripple him because he knows he'll get shit for it but he also knows in the end he's going to do whatever makes him happy. "You said I was tiresome, With heels dug deep, reciting my lines All tarred in make-up and glazed in light" She wants to break-up for good but he's extremely resistant "with heels dug deep". They've been through this before and he's "reciting his lines". Her make up is dripping because she's finally realizing that the two of them just aren't going to work. The first verse slightly confuses me. I'm certain this song could be interpreted differently, but this is what I believe it means. |

| J. Cole – Can't Cry Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| The third verse of this song is absolute lyrical magic. By FAR, one of J. Cole's most impressive songs. | |
| Keri Hilson – Knock You Down Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I too was confused by this - Especially because MJ's death was right around the time this song was becoming popular... I was assuming it had to have been written long before and that it was referring to something else. | |
| Kid Cudi – The Prayer Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| As has already been stated, Day 'n' Nite is in the background at the end because it was the next track on "A Kid Named Cudi". However, I really like the symbolic idea that it is because the song is his legacy. Didn't think of that, and I doubt that Cudi did himself, but it certainly is a cool idea. | |
| Kid Cudi – Erase Me (feat. Kanye West) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
iWilkesx, I think that may be part of it but the song is mainly about break-ups. The girl in the relationship complains about things and breaks up with the guy. Then after a couple of days the girl realizes she messed up breaking up with him. She "can't stop missing [him]". However, she disappointed him and "it makes [him] feel a bit complete" that he's able to break her heart like she did to him. Then ironically after a couple more weeks he begins to realize he misses her, and "wishes [they] could start over". However, she's moved on. Then they can't stop seeing each other and it's torcherous. That's how I see it atleast. Perhaps it's a bit literal, but it seems simple enough. |

| Jay Electronica – Exhibit A Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
"spit that wonder rhymer shit me and my conglomerates shall remain anonymous caught up in the finer shit" The first four bars belong to Jay-Z. It's from Dead Presidents, the single version which was not on his first album Reasonable Doubt. "i swam down shits creek and came up clean with a new lease on life like andy dufresne" love this line. Shawshank Redemption reference for those who don't know. |

| Jay-Z – Empire State of Mind Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
You messed up some lines, not to mention took them from another website... Probably should get rid of the "lyrics courtesy of allhiphop.com" The line in the chorus is: "Concrete jungle where dreams are made of" |
