Steven wilson said in an interview that this song is about the more bitter stage of emotions after a breakup. not so much angry, but definitely bitter. As for the title, it was named after the studio cat and has nothing to do with the songmeaning. They had been playing with the idea of "Bonnie the Cat" as a potential song title for a while. |

people here keep relating this song to sex and adultery, and while i see that as a potential interpretation, i don't believe that is THE meaning of this song. I think it is much more broad than that. i think it's about how all attempts to make things right, to pretend to be someone else in order to do so, etc will just fall through. when things get good it all goes away again. this could be applied to anything. as for the last line it actually relates to this. i'm not gonna be thrown off by the "dirty mind" comment and automatically think it's about sex. it's just a general reference, implying how a person can feel so wrong just for being him or herself. also, people have mentioned that there was a song before this called Big Ideas (Not Gonna Happen)and that it had a line about a woman beckoning you to bed, but it tells you not to go. people have saud that this MUST mean that this song, nude, is about adultery. but i think the reason this song doesn't have that line in it is for the purpose of broadening the meaning of the song..so as not to distract from its application to many other aspects of our lives. That's how i see the song. |
