I agree with Travis ^^ Didn't Jason leave Mayday because of issues about where they wanted the band to go? So, yeah, he could be upset about that, but he wouldn't say "I don't want to stay gone." |

I can't believe that nobody has commmented on this song!! It's absolutely amazing. It's about how someone is always being too hard on themselves, and they've finally realised, and they're sick of it, and they want to change. "Permission to Shine", meaning that they're going to let themselves be the best that they can be. I especially love the line "I'm gonna shine a little of my light on the world." That, and the whole chorus, suggests that they've been trying to be somebody else, and they're going to let people see them for what they really are. It's a great song, illustrating the way so many people feel today as the results of peer pressure and popularity and what-not. 5 Stars. |

siobs - maybe the 'quiet' thing is why she walked away. if she was popular, she would have stood up for him (hopefully), but she didn't want to get noticed?? that's just my theory anyway. it's an amazing song, and you'd have to be really brave to sing/write this song. |

Really, I think this song is pretty self-explanatory... My sister introduced me to this song, and I absolutely fell in love with it. I can't believe nobody else has commented yet! |

What I think this song is about is two people that get into a relationship, but everybody thinks that it is going to fail. But basically, he's like, 'i don't care what they say, i've already lost control of what i'm feeling... I'm so happy that I've made it this far that I'm not going to be upset or scared if it ends' that's what i think anyway i love this song <3 |

| Mayday Parade – If You Wanted a Song Written About You, All You Had to Do Was Ask Lyrics | 16 years ago |

"And you dropped the note and we changed key You changed yourself and I changed me I really didn't see us singing through this Then you screamed the bridge And I cried the verse And our chorus came out unrehearsed Then you smiled the whole way through it I guess maybe that's what's worse" Musically speaking, changing key is sort of a change of mood. It's supposed to have the effect of making the song brighter after a "good thing" has happened, or make the song less bright after a "bad thing" such as a fight has happened. They were generally used more in programme symphonies or operas, which were both pieces of music that told stories. What I think this part means is that they were in synch, always making decisions together, and making sure everything was okay with each other, and then one day, she goes off and does something stupid, like seeing another guy, and their relationship changes key. And they're both changing. Then, they're both getting upset: "Then you screamed the bridge and I cried the verse" Like, she's yelling at him, and he's trying to talk to her through all his tears and then they're trying to ignore it, just going back to what they normally do, but it's different, "our chorus came out unrehearsed" Usually when something is unrehearsed, it doesn't sound the best, it's full of glitches and mistakes "And you smiled the whole way through it, I guess maybe that's what's worse" She doesn't really care that she's breaking his heart and making him cry, and that's worse than her actually doing it all in the first place... That's what I think anyway.. I love Mayday Parade, I hope they become popular in Australia |
