I'm surprised that no one's said this, maybe Brand New isn't typically seen as this kind of band, but I'm going to go ahead and say it and see what you guys think. I see Noro being pretty much a microcosm to the global society, and how everyone is so blinded by the media and all the bs in the world today. This can be seen closely correlated to the allegory of the cave, or even pink floyd's wall. I think Jesse's wall/cave is the forest, which he relates to ALOT in this album. No one in 'Noro' can just appreciate life or rest just for a second, they are always trying to satisfy and do what others tell them is right. They are scared to follow their aspirations because of possible consequences due to todays society (are they all just scared of their dreams?/what are they haunted by?). The song begins with the light guiding him and then ends with Jesse stating that its getting darker and the hope of leaving the forest is diminishing, probably because society crushes those who try to reach the knowledge outside the forest. The biggest thing that makes me think he is going for this angle is when he screams "im on my way to hell" repeatedly, and "i want to kill and eat my young". Quotes like that in a song just show that they are done with how society is run now, and they dont care if it even leads them the wrong way in life or afterwards, as long as they get out of the forest/wall/cave or however you perceive it. This is all bunched up and a little disorganized, but I think i kind of got the jist in there, so hopefully some of you read it and help me piece it together and tell me what you think, because I think i got something going with this. |

If you dont get songs like this, and ridiculously long instrumentals and the other weird, crazy stuff Brand New does in their albums, sorry man, but you just don't get indie. |
