| Much better. I guess these are the official lyrics? I did mine before the physical CD came out so it was all by ear. Thanks! | |

| Carving! Conjured! You're right. I'll submit the corrections. I took a few hours to transcribe this and a few other songs by repeating the same sections over and over. Great stuff! | |

| Heralds, as in bearers of important news. It's an old word and it's not used frequently nowadays except for in the names of newspapers. | |
| As Cities Burn – Clouds Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
The man talking in the very beginning has a very good message: "Who do you think God is and what do you think God does? God is everywhere- On the ground you're standing on, Way out beyond the clouds. He is here 24/7. You can't stop it, you can't change. And all you can do is live with it, and accept it. If you don't accept it, you can move on and you'll die out anyways." Good message! |

| Inhale Exhale – No One Is Invincible Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This song is about people in the church who act out their faith through action, but don't really act it out in their heart with God. "The tune is useless" is basically saying that you can sing the songs (walk the walk) all you want, but it doesn't really mean anything unless you say "thank you to the one who needs the credit", or God. It says "you slave and save to be someone you do not love," meaning that you try so hard to be what you're supposed to be as a Christian, but you're really not getting anywhere. I think the whole song can be summed up with one of the final lines, "What's the point of living if it's all for yourself?" The part about finding another exit is saying that if you can find a way out of this world without giving credit to "the one who needs the credit", let me know (I'm curious). Good song by the way, one of my favorites on the album. A few of the words are wrong in the lyrics here, but nothing major. |

| I Am Terrified – Heaven Knocking, Hell Rising Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
In the lyrics, "here" is spelled as "hear" multiple times. The meaning of the song can be summed up in just the title. Heaven is knocking- it is calling on you for salvation and to worship and witness. But all the while, Hell is rising and claiming the world. Basically the theme of the whole song. I especially like the singer's voice when he's screaming. It sounds like his throat is so dry and he won't be able to scream for much longer. Like he's been screaming for a long time and is reaching the end to where he can't scream any more. Kind of symbolic to the meaning of the song, although I'm sure it wasn't meant that way. |

| Oh, Sleeper – THE NEW BREED Lyrics | 16 years ago |

DellowMan, I think that the line about rising in mutiny: "Our bodies yearn to live life endlessly, so now we rise. We rise in mutiny." Is actually referring to born-again Christians rising in "mutiny" to what their body wants (to live life endlessly). And what is your body but a vessel? Mutiny is commonly associated with ships- but that's just a side note. |

| Yea, they said that in an interview as well. They bring up issues that other Christian bands don't like to mention, such as pornography and lust. | |
| Becoming the Archetype – How Great Thou Art Lyrics | 16 years ago |

It's obviously about Easter.. DUH! No, this one really needs no explanation. Might as well put the lyrics right here and let them be the explanation of themselves. I like that one, ex nihilo. Jesus IS the rock. |

| Becoming the Archetype – Evil Unseen Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I agree with you GrayLander. It's about not letting your mind be corrupted with patterns of thinking that are not with the Lord. It's about people putting their faith in secular ways of thinking, which ultimately leads to other, stronger (and further from the Lord) ways of thinking. These ways of thinking pervert the truth until it no longer exists in that person's head. | |
| Becoming the Archetype – Dichotomy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Also, "dichotomy" is the splitting of a whole into two separate parts, which furthers my point. Men, who are inherently God's people, split themselves as far away from God as they can. They separate themselves through their lies and creations. | |

I believe this song is about the progression of men turning away from their Creator. Many people choose to turn the cold shoulder to God and Christianity. In other words, they close their eyes so they don't see the light (of God) and close their minds (to Christianity). Instead, they are led on by worldly things and brainwashed by today's secular culture. They idolize men instead of God ("...exchanged the incorruptible/for the image of fallen men"). They believe the lies that are spoonfed to them instead of the Truth of God's Word. Eventually, these lies are the only things that they believe and even want to hear; all differing opinions are shut out. I especially like the part that is sung (not screamed). "The heavens wait in silence/For the coming of the end/As man perfects his own imperfection/Destruction closes in." This should be a wake up call. God is watching the world destroy itself. He watches as man perfects his imperfections, attempting to play God. But all the while, they are destroying themselves but don't know it because they believe all their own lies and shun differing opinions. But in the end, what was it for? What did they spend their life doing? They dug their own graves to rot in. Everything that they made comes crashing down on them, because what they have made is not eternal. All their self-created lies and "perfect imperfections" has led them to 6 feet under, and no farther. Death is waiting for those men; just as the heavens are silently watching the world destroy itself, so is the devil. |

I feel that this song is about a man who has chosen to objectify women in some way or another (rape, prostituting, general domination of weak minded women). He says that he stalks the streets, hunting for the next one that will hang on every word he speaks as if it is the truth. There are in fact people who get so rapt up in someone that they take everything that person says as the truth, ignoring things that would throw a red flag for most (physical, emotional, sexual abuse, infidelity, taking advantage of her). The man has thrown away conventional virtues and without them, the "rewards" are good to him because it's what he wants. Without virtues, he is able to take part in all the worldly things he wants and enjoy them. He can run faster than guilt, meaning that he never takes the blame for what he does because what he does is never wrong in his own eyes. But God confronts this sinner. It is obvious that the man has some glint of guilt as he speaks with God, saying "I wish I could be so much more than me." He knows what he is doing is wrong, and he wants to repent from it, but doesn't know how. He tells God that he doesn't believe he is worth the effort of saving. He feels that his sins are far too great to be forgiven, but the whole time God is telling him that he can and will forgive him. He continues denying God's open arms, all the time reasoning to himself why he doesn't deserve to be saved. He says he is a dog that has tasted (flesh, sin) and turned (continued living in the flesh) and he has found his strength in another (meaning he finds strength in oppressing women). He continues to be resistant to the end of the song. Finally, he tells God that he doesn't want to see his daughter conned and taken advantage of by someone like himself, a monster. He accepts God and asks to be put to sleep, presumably putting his sinful life to sleep so he can wake up anew and saved. I'd also like to say that this song is the most moving to me. The absolute intensity of the conversation between the sinner and God is amazingly well constructed and executed. |

| Oh, Sleeper – COMMISSIONED BY KINGS Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"Give me your eyes so I can see through fire/Give me your strength so I can stand so strong.." This is a believer in God praying for strength to face what comes. "Now we walk on leathered skin to freedom/The tempest roars, but I am fearless." He is following Jesus to freedom (of this world). The devil's temptations and threats still ring out to the narrator, but he is fearless because he follows Jesus. "With each step I crack and stretch and each breath is a sting to my chest./My God, will this push bring purity or..." The narrator is growing tired and his journey is painful. He begins to question God's intentions and promises by asking if following him will in fact bring purity (or, bring him to Heaven). "This push" implies that his walk with Christ has not been constant, and that he has a "push" or surge to follow Jesus. ""They're climbing, they're climbing through soil and earth."" God is warning the narrator that the end is coming. "They have my scent!" The narrator fears that devil is still able to tempt him (as the devil always sends temptations, to believers and non-believers). This conflicts with what he said earlier about being fearless, further suggesting that his walk with Jesus is not constant (or he has doubts). ""but you can stop them, I'm sure..."" God knows that this man is able to resist the temptations. "Yes, I can best even the devil himself. "...but your pride has just made it worse..."" The narrator is boastful that he can best the devil, a very prideful thing to say. God tells him that his pride is succumbing to temptation ("just made it worse") because the devil has his scent and is on his trail, trying to tempt him. "What writhing sprite is unearthing here?" This could go one of two ways. The first (and what I believe) is that the narrator is shocked by God's statement and he begins to question Him about His intentions, pulling him further from God. Or, he could be asking God literally, "what's going on here?" "Why choose from prodigals a band of cowards/to hoist your banner of love for the world to the slaughter?" He is asking God why he chose lowly people such as himself to follow Him and present his message to the undeserving people. The next few lines are God telling him that the doubt in his faith has hurt his walk with Him. ("...the smallest of flaws...failed you to crawl.") He tells him that he's from the same dirt the sinners are and has not listened to his warnings. I'm not so sure about the lion to nothing at all, but that could have something to do with courage (or cowardice). He tells him that he is in a constant war with himself between his body (the world) and his heart (his salvation) and that if he calls to Him (asks for forgiveness), that his soul will be strengthened anew. "Give me your eyes.../...so I can stand strong./I breathe in your light and like fire my colors now light." He is asking God again for his strength, but this time with genuine intentions. At the end of the song, he is again ready to face the temptations of the devil. |

| Oh, Sleeper – THE FIRE DAWN Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I agree with you on this one. I'd also like to add that it can be applied to a person's life in general. It may or may not have been written with these intentions, but it's possible. It could be saying that the narrator (a mortal man) is saying his body (worldliness) is what kept him from living (in Christ), and that while he was facing death (living his sinful life such as crime, drugs, etc), he still dined on flesh (partook of the world). He says "Stand up, we'll be more than kings/Show no mercy when the gates swing/I've said it before...," meaning that he has committed to fighting sin before, but only through his words and not through a love of Christ. The rest of the song can then go on to describe him facing temptations the devil throws his way ("I'll face them one-on-one-thousand") and that in the end he will conquer all those temptations through Christ. That's just one interpretation of the song, and it doesn't really go with the "God's Army" theme going in the record. But I thought I'd throw that out there. |
