| fun. – Some Nights Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
It sounds like Nate is trying to figure out how he feels about fun. gaining popularity. Sometimes he wishes his lips would build a castle (aka his voice make him rich?) but sometimes he wishes they'd just fall off so he wouldn't have to worry about it. So many references to this: What do I stand for? / Most nights I don't know anymore the whole So this is it? verse the allusion to a swan song -- every song makes him think about giving it all up Five minutes in and I'm bored again -- got bored with the Format, and it starting to feel the same about fun. I hope this isn't an actual representation of how Nate feels. He deserves popularity (he always has). If he's reluctant to be famous, then I hope he goes off and starts another new project rather than giving music up entirely. He is God's gift to human ears. |

Can't help but think about Camus and Absurdism. "Looking for patterns" (aka meaning) in life, but finding that there are none ("blowing like garbage in the street"). Realizing the reality of death = coming into conflict with the Absurd. I dunno if this is what Conor was going for, but that's what I got out of it. I can see Absurdism in a lot of his songs. |

| Matt & Kim – Northeast Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I like how this song mirrors "Good Ol' Fashioned Nightmare," in which M says "the skyline looks brighter tonight/lets go smash out every light." Here, he says the same "but this time I turned on five more lights." Kind of seems like they're growing up, but a little unsure whether or not they like it. | |

I think it's "See where all my follies led" Either way, this is an amazing song. I love how they keep changing things up, while still remaining identifiably The Decemberists. |

| Person L – Changed Man Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Here are the lyrics, according to the album notes (or whatever you call them): When I woke up this morning Could not roll out of bed Did not feel a fever With my hand placed upon my head Must have been a demon Must have had a demon hanging around He'll catch me off guard He gets me into a whole lot of trouble now Now that I've got a bit older Got to grow into a man Lived my whole life as a young boy Got to learn a lesson while I still can Must be a reason Must be a reason that I haven't found No more looking back Eyes front The answers are coming out My floorboards are creaking Feelings are hitting me wrong I could feel another one creeping Another fever is coming on Must've been a demon Must have a dozen inside my house Been cleaning them out Changed man, I'll send them back the way they came There is no room here for this darkness to crowd this space There's been a burden that needs resolution to take its place I've got a feeling Feels like my demons are heading out I sent them all packing right back the way they came You don't belong here, go on I'll send you back the way you came Stop dead in your tracks Get out, go back to hell for heaven's sake |

| The Love Language – Brittany's Back Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This is by far my favorite song on the album. I love the way he sings the chorus (it's kind of hard to udnerstand though, so I may have messed the lyrics up) | |
