Thrice – I've Just Seen a Face (The Beatles cover) Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm kinda surprised no one has said this but this cover sucks. I'm sorry, I love Thrice, but everything from the production value to the group lyrics in the chorus are crap. If anyone here hasn't heard this abomination, check it out on YouTube, get a laugh, put on Vheissu, and never listen to this song again. I will say that it's definitely a testament to Thrice's growth as a band.

Thrice – Answered Lyrics 15 years ago
This song, in my opinion, was heavily influenced by the CS Lewis novel "Till We Have Faces". The book is about this girl who is a princess in a primitive ancient nation who, throughout her life, begins to reject her nations religion. But by the end of her life, she has an encounter with her God which causes her to return to her religion she once considered superstitious. That is a really basic, superficial interpretation as TWHF is an extremely deep novel, but the theme is still the same. Also, I remember Dustin was reading this book during the writing and recording of this album, so it would make sense that it inspired the lyrics for this song.

Also, there are similarities with this and the biblical story of Job. The line, "I had heard of you but now my eyes have seen" is a paraphrase from Job 42:5.

Anyway, I hope this helps somebody understand where Dustin was coming from when writing this song.

Thrice – See You in the Shallows Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm suprised no one has caught this, but the song was influenced heavily by the C. S. Lewis book, Out of the Silent Planet. In the book it talks about a planet with less gravity than earth (gravity seems far away), blueish water (the water here is far too blue),and high cliffs that almost exceed the planets atmosphere (the rocks are leaping for the sky, they're starving for the air). I don't claim to know the "meaning" of the song, just trying to give some insight in to where the ideas came from. I would recommend checking out some C. S. Lewis to anyone who is interested in Thrice's music; you'll find a lot of lyrics/themes that Dustin has used came from Lewis' writings.
