The Kinks – Plastic Man Lyrics 16 years ago
This song has not dated at all... in this day of mobile phones and texting, ipods and downloading, second life and... well second lives... it seems to be a very current social commentary.

The Kinks – Victoria Lyrics 16 years ago
There may be a degree of sarcasm in the song... not much though... its not a celebration of empire or the Victorian era... I think its a 50s 60s post war comment.. At the time there were popular series of war comics sold at railway stations, bus stations, newsagents etc read by every small boy and adolescent into their late teens... its not even a celebration of these more a social comment on attitudes as the concept of empire faded away.

The Kinks – Sunny Afternoon Lyrics 16 years ago
The song is very heavy on satire and irony, agawlbb is probably correct in their summation. Its also possible it is someone on low wage lamenting life and the depredations of the taxman yet able to sit back in a fairly contented state.
A good contrast and comparison with this song is The Kinks, Dead End Street, very bitter sounding lyrics.
