I guess this would be considered more of a personal opinion of the song, basically how I interpret it. "The odds are, we'll be better off." I've been having my problems with addiction of cigarettes, and I've been in a constant mindset of trying to quit and it's the hardest thing to do. It's cheap measured pleasure, and I know in my mind that I would be better off without smoking but my flesh craves the nicotine. That's just how I see it I suppose. |

To date I feel this song is probably the most ambitious song by Green Day. I first started listening to them when American Idiot came out but I went back and listened to all of their previous albums. You can see the growth and change in their style and opinions as the times and Country have changed. The song to me is pretty much telling a story about how government and the people in power dictate the way we live everyday. The changes in government directly affect the working class who have to work in order to make a living. The way our Country is now, it's steadily getting worse, and with that decline people are slowly becoming angry and stressed. Even through all the change and angst, their are still those who stand against the majorally accepted opinions and governmental rules and still find a place in the world where they can live while keeping their own opinions, and not working for one. The entire scope of the album, about a couple who both have different ideas and methods of doing things, but in a way their two of a kind, and in all reality they only have each other. That's how I feel at least about the titular track, but I like the demo just as much as the official release. |
