There was no worse addict than Layne Staley in music history and his story has to be told. and I think this truly is Jerrys song completely for and about Layne |

To be quite frankly and completely honest with you I think this whole song is about Layne. His upbringing. his rise his addiction his downfall. "A looking in view, too long on the outside" it is EXTREMELY difficult to get into the mind of a heroin addict or any drug addict for that matter. Theres always a looking in view to someone to find out who they really are but there is never really any way in. Ever. and that is exactly who Layne Staley was. He would never let his great friend Jerry Cantrell into his life to talk about his pain. and thats the most tragic part. he died so lonely. and i swear after Jerry sings "desperate plans make sense in a low life" when william and jerry harmonize together singing "ahhhhhhh ah ah ahhhhhhh" it sounds Identical to Layne. It shocked me just listening to it for the first time. But yes ladies and gentleman this great new single off "Black gives way to blue" is completely about the haunting late Layne Staley. God rest his tortured soul forever and ever. I'll always miss that man no matter how much time has passed |
