| Such Gold – Sycamore Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Haha, 55 Sycamore. That's literally 5 minutes away from where I went to high school, and one neighborhood over from where my Dad grew up. | |
| Such Gold – Four Superbowls, No Rings Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Being from Rochester, where the band is from, I know that by "Four Superbowls, No Rings" they're referring to the Buffalo Bills. It's pretty obvious in that regard. In Rochester we're pretty used to the snow and cold, thanks to Lake Ontario. That must be what the "New York winters" they're talking about are. |

| Tigers Jaw – Buona Pizza Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I live in Scranton, PA where Tigers Jaw is from, and there's a pizza place called Buona Pizza a few minutes from my place. Seems too coincidental to not be the reason for the song name. | |
| Brand New – Jaws Theme Swimming Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I think we need to think a little harder. The song sounds like it's saying: "Hands we learn, bones we age, Waiting for nothing and my body still aches. Amputate cuts they give though I love you and my body leaks like a sieve." |

| At the Drive-In – Incetardis Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
You're all thinking too hard about this. "Cryptic codes" kind of gives it away. Anyway, INCETARDIS is an anagram for IRAN EDICTS. On November 1st, 2001, George Bush signed an Executive Order (13233) that changed Executive privilege to a "need-to-know" basis. If you're from Britain, think of it like an Order in Council. This Executive Order actually repealed a Reagan-era Executive Order that gave everyone free information to information about the pasts of the Presidents. So, we were supporting the Contra in Nicaragua back during Reagan's Presidency. They were a rebel group, attempting to overthrow the new Socialist government. At the time, Iran was holding Americans hostage. It turned into a tradeoff, where we sold them guns so they'd free our hostages. Oliver North of the NSC covered it up by giving the money to the Contra. During the lame-duck period of George HW Bush's presidency, he pardoned six of the people involved, including Elliott Abrams and John Poindexter. Elliott Abrams went on to be "Special Assistant" to George W Bush. His duties included director of democracy for the NSC. See a problem there? Well, it gets worse. John Poindexter had Congressional funds appropriated to the IAO, and attempted to create a market analysis for foreign policy. Basically, you pay for a "contract" about future events in the Middle East. Contracts included coups, assassinations, and wars. The idea was that the more people who wanted the contract, the more it would be worth. It was sort of like an opinion poll. Some claimed he could have been betting on the outcome of wars. He claimed that it was useful for aiding the Federal gov't about popular opinion on wars. George W Bush covered up information on his father's pardons for those two. He did it for the honor of his father, and then went even further and gave them jobs in his administration. It's just wrong. Evidence in the lyrics: "this kin is knock knock knocking on your door" - kin = George W Bush, George HW Bush. GH Bush came into office after GHW Bush "with this promiscuous livestock, every day is November 1st in this Sodom and Gommorah" -November 1st, 2001 is the day GH Bush passed the Executive Order -this is an analogy. there are two meanings to the word promiscuous. on the first listen, the listener might think this is about sex. in actuality, he uses the word promiscuous as a "lack of standards." So, really it's an analogy. |

| Rise Against – Architects Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I posted these lyrics. This song is about a few things. Are they the fighters of fear anymore? Are we the generation we've been waiting for? Are we patiently burning, waiting to be saved? -> Things have changed, and our generation may be able to fix it. Except, there is also the possibility our generation will just wait for someone else to save us. Our heroes are icons that mellow with age Following rules that they once disobeyed They're now being lead when they used to lead the way -> Heroes nowadays only listen to people like the President, people in power, etc. There's no straying from the line. Tim McIlrath doesn't like this. Do you still believe in all the things That you stood by before? -> Self explanitory I hope they're on the front lines or at home keeping score -> Everyone should be involved. Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate or would you rather be the architect of what we might create? -> You can either do things for yourself, or work together with others to make the situation better. Go! They laid out the blueprints they poured down a base Concrete solutions to slow our decay but when they are gone who the fuck's gonna take their place? -> The leaders are currently leading the way, but you should want to take their place when they're gone to improve things the way you think they should be improved. yeah, we'll empty the cynics, the critics galore they say i'm pathetic, face down on the floor this trusty complacent we'll collectively ignore -> All the critics are censored. We'll ignore the crimes of the leaders because of this. Do you still believe in all the things That you stood by before? I hope they're on the front lines or at home keeping score Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate or would you rather be the architect of what we might create? Don't you remember when you were young and you wanted to set the world on fire? Somewhere deep down, I know you do. And don't you remember when we were young and we wanted to set the world on fire? Cuz I still am, and I still do. -> When you're young, you want to fix things. When you get older, you just role with the changes. Tim has gotten older, but is still young at heart and wants to fix things. Make no mistake, we are not afraid to bear the burden of repeating what they're thinking anyway. Let's raise the stakes on the bet we made Let's decide to be the architects, the masters of our fate -> We should all change things to the way we want them to be. Yeah, we still believe in all the things that we stood by before. I know, tour everything we've seen maybe even more I know we're not the only ones and we were not the first and unapologetically we stand behind these words -> We all won't apologize for fixing things the way we think they should be. Just my two cents on the lyrics. |

| Million Dead – Holloway Prison Blues Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
"The leg bone is connected to the Foot bone is connected to the Export Processing Zones. And it's nothing we condone. But everybody owns A pair of those shoes." Frank begins the connection of his skeleton to what is wrong with the western world. "The bloodstream gets its sugar from the Intestine gets its sugar from the Supermarket chain That left the village drained. Every high street, same soulless refrain." He compared his bloodstream to things wrong with the western world. "I looked a little closer at The walls of my house And to my surprise They were made out of glass. So i made my way softly Towards my front door, But to my surprise It was bolted shut and barred." We're all in a fragile house, made out of glass, and we're stuck in here. He's saying how fragile the world is. The newspaper reads like A list of charges brought against me. So I'm changing my plea to An open address to the jury. I confess That I was there on that grassy knoll, And I confess I helped fake the moon landings as well." He's saying that all of us are responsible for the faults with the western world "But I confess I've yet to let slip my lowest low: There've been times when I've pretended I didnt know About my skeleton." remember before when I was talking about him drawing his skeleton to the problems of our world? well here he says he sometimes ignores this problems. "Your honour I swear that i can explain: There are mitigating factors to consider In this case;" I was looking out of a window to the west." He's only looking toward the progress of the western world, not the eastern. Francis Fukuyama took me by the arm." Francis Fukuyama wrote a book about The End of the World. Frank told me he was trying to square the end of the western world with this book. "Won me over with his famous Inetellectual charm, Swore this beauty wouldn't do any harm. We didn't look east Because the sun was setting." the sun was setting in the west, and there was nothing left they could do about it. the western world failed, and there's no going back to the way things were before they split from the east. "It's easy to lose yourself In the faintest reflection in the Pane of a window. I suspect that I've lost myself In the guilty reflection of The pain that it lets through." sometimes you only look to do what's best for yourself, and not what's best for others or the environment. frank, on the other hand, is guilty of the pain that he is causing by only caring for himself. "I must confess I've started Throwing stones Around the house. I don't mean to moan But i never even Signed the lease." frank has begun ruining the world, but doesnt care because he's not worrying about those who will come after him. |

| Rise Against – Generation Lost Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song is about sending all our nation's young men to war, and how it's ridiculous that there's a draft, and all the support they receive when they get back home is bullshit. Proof: "Getting trampled under boots of progess Ignore the pleading of the nameless faces Now with our backs against the wall" the men dont want to go to war, but theyre forced to "How long til we fall?" the men are wondering how long it will last that people can be forced to go to war. "Do away with all the underprivileged their demographic doesn't fit your image" those in college dont ever get drafted, and only the underprivileged cannot afford/dont have the resources for college "Turn your blind eye when duty calls" the rich look away when theyre supposed to be the ones going to war. "(In With The New)" they send in more and more troops, but they just keep dying. either that, or new officials in power. "This is something that you can't ignore A simple thing worth fighting for cuz now they're tearing down our doors" theyre tearing down our doors to get us go to war "So she screams out the window, "I've had it up to here" So sick and tired of wondering where I'll be next year..." the girl's boyfriend or husband has gone off to war, and she keeps wondering where the hell she's going to be in a year, cuz he might die or whatever. "Caring less about the homeless millions All the petty problems that go with them Reap the profit that reaps their lives and Tell me that it's fine" the government continues to go deeper and deeper into debt, helping themselves, while there are still millions of homeless. i cant really think of a way this ties into the rest of the song. it's weird. "Throw them out and call it relocation Lower-income-housing quick solution" the gov't programs aren't helping "A GENERATION LOST" this generation just forgets about the homeless, so we're hopelessly lost. "Now in the whirlwind of my life Is where you presently reside Can I pretend you don't exist Maybe just for ten more minutes? My hearts been broken into two and rusted from years of disuse So will you place upon it your hands Will you help it beat again?" seems like the song completely changes gears to a love song at this point "It seems the whole world's turned on me (Bound and gagged) in the land of the free Let's talk this over, this game is over In with the new, out with the old Hearts of the world have grown so cold Let's talk this over, this game is over " the view of the soldier sent to war. the land of the free has turned on him. then the very end, the last line, is that his girlfriend or wife has left him. seems like this song is just the story of a soldier who's having a hell of a time in every aspect of his life. |

| Alkaline Trio – 5-3-10-4 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| 5 am to 3 pm (5-3) are the hours you're up. 10-4 is code for "understood." This song is about how routines are shit, and your life is wasted in 5-3, and even though you understand it, you can't change it. | |
| Rise Against – Making Christmas Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song is pretty fucking retarded in my opinion, and I love everything RA does. | |
| Rise Against – Grammatizator Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| The song is based on a short story called "The Great Automatic Grammatizator," by Roald Dahl. The story is about a guy who builds a machine that writes perfect stories, putting authors out of work. This song actually has a bunch of lines from the short story in it, example being "God grant me the strength to let my children starve." | |
| The Killing Tree – Cacophony (The Death Of Affection) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"lie with those sweet words that fall from your lips" The girl has obviously double-crossed the guy by saying she loved him, but she really didn't. "stare so cold and calulating worth the risk" The girl is speechless, trying to figure out what to say to him, hoping it won't hurt HER in some way. "escape from this life of expectations to finally die free the virus grows inside my head here it makes me speak in screams and whispers" He's obviously considering killing himself. "no need to aplolgize I see deceit behind your eyes there is nothingleft for us here" He knows that she's lying. He also knows that their relationship is over. "start a war a war for two a final suicide I can share with you" He wants to hurt her, but realizes that hurting her would also hurt himself. "the death of affection under your discretion" She gets to choose how and when he loses his affection for her. "breathe life to the lifeless breathe life" She could give life (enthusiasm, personality) back to him, which she has taken away from him under her discretion. On a side note, this is my favorite TKT song, because it's so different compared to everything else that's out there. |

| The Killing Tree – The Perfect Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Song is about a guy who can't find a girl to love him or whatever, aka "the perfect" girl. This is shown with the last line "wait 'til the perfect comes." "I never noticed the color of her your eyes until I saw them in the reflection of this knife." This line shows that he at least has a knife in front of the girl. In the end, however you find out... "Bring your head down to see my hand around your wrist. I turn and twist this blade deeper into me." He's really killing HIMSELF, not her. "So green with envy for a life you never had. Bloodshot contempt when I extend my hand." She's envious of the people with normal relationships, but when the normal guy attempts to reach out to her, she regards him as inferior. "So, breathe and show us what you've got underneath! Clench your fists until they bleed!" I'm pretty sure this is the guy talking to himself, telling himself that he should take some sort of action. "See how and why I know. I don't think that this is what I want anymore. I don't care if God can save me now. Here I sit with hands cupped and head bowed." He prays to God to figure out what to do about the problem. He ends up not wanting a relationship with the girl, but since he can't get a relationship with anyone, he wants to take some drastic measure. "In this world of kiss and tell I've got no stories to speak of. Silence fills this empty hole. So naive to think that I could make you feel one fucking thing." He's had no relationships, so he's using the phrase "kiss and tell" literally. He's naive (lacking experience) to think that he could make the girl feel anything towards him, although that's pretty obvious. |

| Alkaline Trio – Goodbye Forever Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I'm pretty sure it's about a guy who is watching a girl, who he is forbidden to be with for one reason or another. "Take your wings outside, no use for them in here. Bad luck to open in here." I think he's saying that they love each other, but it's forbidden. |

| Rise Against – Heaven Knows Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
It's a song about Tim McIlrath's friend who committed suicide, and Tim's moving on. The music video has nothing to do with the song, although I wish it did. Tim is an incredible lyricist, and I attribute it to the fact that he was an English major in college. |

| Rise Against – Torches Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
First verse: The guy can't leave his "bedroom" because it is jail. The lake drifts to him from the shore, and he can't get there, but he's still waiting to be released from prison. Chorus: The wonders whether if his hand blocked the sun if people would ever realize that the world is messed up. His "crime" didn't make people notice, he was just shunned and jailed. And if he "turned back all these clocks" he would never have enough time to make people realize the wrongs being committed. Second verse: This verse is about a girl who meets the guy, and loves him, but he is sent to jail for what he believes in. "so put your hands where I can see them, and shut your mouth, I know who you are, in a world void of feeling or heart I know that we are the torches in the dark": This is the part that gives away that he is in jail, but in a world void of feeling or heart, those who want to fix things are the torches in the dark. "let's break this down, let's make this count, let's leave this one-horse town, no better time than now": The guy wants to break out of jail for the girl and leave town, while the time is right. "the angels dance like feathers float, they're here to see and to be seen, the clock strikes two, the music slows and each one slowly dons their wings, once outside they all pair off and hand in hand they leave but I'm still waiting, yeah I'm still waiting": This bridge sort of thing here means that everyone who wants to leave and go off and have a life together can do it, but the guy who is in jail and the girl who love him cannot do it. In my opinion this is RA's second best song besides Heaven Knows. It is absolutely incredible in every way. I wish they would play it live again... |
