i can tell you what this whole song is about. and yeah, if anybody says "no you're wrong," well i'm sorry, i'm right. "if i'm a liar, and you're a thief" jesse is probably talking about the duality within himself. "oh no, vin wrote the songs, so i'm wrong." either way, just think about it. please see nirvana's "penny royaltea," where he says "i'm a liar and a thief." if anybody has seen links between brand new's new album and some of nirvana's works, well, thats cause there is. more lyrics within "penny royal tea" are "well i'm on warm milk, and laxatives. cherry flavored, antacids." any idea why you would take that? get a hint people. this album is fucked up and when jesse says its brand news last one, its for a serious reason. just be safe... if |

"we got inches away, and i never even got close." holy shit man. This girl that i loved, had a boyfriend who was away at college but i was back home with her. we used to lay around together and what not, cuddling and stuff, but she'd never kiss me. she was all about me, hanging out all the time, until he came home for a weekend, when she'd see him. this went on for a while. i eventually couldn't take it anymore and i'd say it fucked me up pretty good. when i look back now, i realize i never had a chance.... not that anybody cares. |

i wanted to post something like this but i find myself posting too frequently on here. I saw it like... "all the candles on the cake" him getting older "all set fire to the gate" broke down his barriers, like it finally got to him that hes getting older, ya know? he may be wondering where his hope and marriage license is, too. "turn the cannons towards the boat, men were drowning in the moat, it was end of all the rowers hope." any people he loved, that maybe tried to rescue him from the castle (from himself?) he turned the cannons on and killed them, aka drove them away. i like your ideas too |

"and theres a lake and at the bottom you'll find all my friends, they don't swim cause they're all dead we never are what we intend, or invent." i think the idea here isn't that his OLD friends are all gone and dead (though they very well may be), but its his NEW "friends" that he is talking about. All these "friends" are likely junkies, and you can find them at the bottom...they don't swim, or try to save themselves, cause they're dead to the world anyway. And the last line is a reflection on his curent condition...almost like an excuse. He never intended to be at the bottom with this crew of people. Some dark stuff for sure man. |

"your sister groans, 'oh usurper to the holy throne'" if those are actually the lyrics. well to me thats an obvious reference to the devil. So...when you add that to "lie to all your friends," its sort of like, he was real bad to this girl and everybody knows it, her sister, her friends. her sister sees him as the devil and she has to lie to her friends when she is seeing him. the first verse suggests she has turned to drug use because of their relationship, maybe? that could be why she is lying to her friends, like lying to them when she is using. not sure... any thoughts? |

we're making good progress on the lyrics...i think. hopefully they'll be confirmed with a booklet. But what does the song mean? "Cars are little blood cells We are oxygen City is the airways Suburbs appendages She was feeling lonely Tired of her hive Rented out a family And he bought a bride" to me, this metaphor is obviously pitting earth as a person. I'm also assuming that the "she" and "her" in that paragraph is the bride that is bought. So who is doing the buying? must be God right? "Little cities names are written on the maps They tied her up and laid her on the train tracks" cities are full of sin...they are damning earth, either through pollution or through sin such as gambling, prositution, pollution, drug use, etc. "Where are all the seedlings, we grew for violins Down in Jersey lumber, stealing prosthetic limbs Should've been a soldier, I could've fought and died There's no revolution, so I bought a bride" absolutely can't get this one... maybe God (or earth) reflecting on what she grew....the seedlings meant to be peacefull (violins) are sinning (stealing prosthetic limbs)....again not really sure here any help is appreciated. "Coming down the aisle while the horns play taps They tied her up and laid her on the train tracks Somehow I was new and everything was unsaid Go and buy a hammer, never sing again" really not sure for either of these again...but i'll give my best. coming down the aisle while the horns play taps...should be such a romantic(?) happy(?) moment, but really its damning because they're laying her on the train tracks. And for the last of these lyrics i've already expressed my probably wrong view, but this is Jesse (vin) speaking here, saying that he needs to buy a hammer and build the family and marriage that he's so far failed to do, and that this may conclude Brand New.
