| Fleet Foxes – Battery Kinzie Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| For some reason, I took the intro verse literally. I thought this was kind of like a folk tale of a guy who woke up a dying man; maybe already dead for years. He goes to his old flame's house, to see her, not realizing any time has passed, and she's with another man. It doesn't fit at all with the later verses, but for some reason, that interpretation has stuck with me; I thought it made for an interesting story, at least. | |
| The Shins – Simple Song Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Well this is just a simple song To say what you've done I told you about all those fears And away they did run You sure must be strong And you feel like an ocean being warmed by the sun When I was just nine-years-old I swear that I dreamt Your face on a football field And a kiss that I kept Under my vest Apart from everything, with the heart in my chest I know that things can really get rough When you go it alone Don’t go thinking you gotta be tough And play like a stone Could be there’s nothing else in our lives so critical As this little hole My life in an upturned boat Marooned on a cliff You brought me a great big flood And you gave me a lift Girl, what a gift You tell me with your tongue And your breath was in my lungs And we float up through the rift I know that things can really get rough When you go it alone Don’t go thinking you gotta be tough and play like a stone Could be there’s nothing else in our lives so critical As this little hole Well this would be a simple song To say what you've done I told you about all those fears And away they did run You sure must be strong When you feel like an ocean being warmed by the sun Remember walking a mile to your house A glow in the dark I made a fumbling play for your heart And the act struck a spark You wore a charm on a chain that I saw Was special for you Love's such a delicate thing that we do With nothing to prove Which I never knew |

| Fleet Foxes – Blue Spotted Tail Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I don't think this song is as sarcastic as some people have said. I'm tired of people calling hopeful things ironic or sarcastic just so they can say that they "get it". This song is simple because it asks very simple questions that are asked every day by the youngest child to the oldest person. | |

| I strongly, strongly agree with janetttx, this song is all about religion and discovering god. | |
| The Shins – A Comet Appears Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Why does everything have to be about the church? He is obviously attacking religion in this song, but organized religion? I think that is a bit of a stretch. But, to each their own. Any interpretation is just as good as another. Personally, this song reminds me a lot of the poem "Thanatopsis" by William Cullen Bryant. |

| The Shins – Young Pilgrims Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I agree. He goes down seeing all of these people who he believed to be good, listening to the message of fairy tales, and then finds out that everyone can be evil, or in his case, everyone IS evil. This is the modern thought part of the song. It got the best of Goodman Brown, and Mercer warns that it could get the best of you. | |

| I am really confused at the Shins message. Don't get me wrong, I think they are a great band, but are they anti-religion, as evidenced in songs like "A Comet Appears", or are they not, because this song seems to me to say that if you can accept religion you SHOULD accept it because modern cynicism can get the best of you if you don't? | |
