I think it's about rising above the shit people give you and taking back you life. "Tire this wrecking ball on jagged line been waking morning A self defense machine to keep me up for the time being" -He used to be a force to be reckoned with but time has worn him down and now he hides behind a wall to protect himself and to keep himself moving. The whole bit with the clam or muscle is pretty simple. All the pain(or sand)onlymakes him stronger and beautiful(like a pearl, which is produced by sand in a clam) "Regrets will fall today Our shields will fall today Hibernation for some time now Sleeping bears to wake at dawn Travel far to surf the sky Been bolted down and stepped on" -He's finally had enough of it and feels he is ready to deal with life again. He was a hibernating bear who had been stepped on and beaten but is now walking on air. |

I think he's talking about his suit and tie job again and how much he hated it and all the people there.either that or its about the corrupt government. "Trade our bombs for reservations In this hopeless situation" -America's trading bombs for dinner reservations with powerful people. "I've been building up this profile to shift these sails inside your side" Could mean he's been watching the fucked up things the people have done and he's planning on reversing them. |

| Every Time I Die – Pretty Dirty Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I got the feeling that most of this cd is about the dying music scene and i believe this song is no different. The first half seems to be talking about the last few musicians playing music for thelove of it, not for the fame or money, and how they are grieving the new music that has come about. The second half sounds like Keith's point of view of it all. "I'm dead in the water. Don't come for me. I was once alive in the deserts eyes on the day it wed the sea." The desert being the scene before it got big, the sea being mainstream. He was there and alive before it got big. "There is so much shame in how little we've gained for so long." You could almost say we've regressed in our music. "Now the sky is falling. And you're just repeating every word I say. You are not listening close enough. It's a catastrophe. You have not been concentrating." Seeing as etid is a big band people are bound to copy them in order to reach the same level of success. But all there doing is repeating the same thing thats been said, but with out the heart and meaning, they've missed out on the most important part. "But we all know that it's killer, baby I will outrun them all." Keith knows it's all shit and he's not going to sit around in it. |
