I agree in thinking this is about Tori, not about someone else... however it may obviously go towards SO many celebs, especially those who are aging. That world isn't kind when you pass your prime, or your "style" is no longer the flavor of the month. I think the "this is just circumstance, it is not personal" line is about being put on the backshelf by a record company, having to deal with the politics behind a career like hers. Something I never think of when I listen to her, but obviously it is there. How difficult it would be to continue to make such beautiful, artistic, and personal music when dealing with the stress of the companies, and contracts etc. As for 'ebony beauty', and the 'looking glass reflects'.... have you ever noticed her reflection in the top of the piano when she is singing... you see it sometimes in live performances... that is what it called to mind... maybe that is the most showing image of her... however unintentionally. |

I guess I have always been surprised by the way Tori's songs have such a broad range of meaning... depending on who is listening. That is why I love them, sometimes lyrics that may have meant something totally different in Tori's head make total sense in my life... and become very personal to me. I think with all the war interpretations, for me, it just weighs this song down too much. I listen and, it just says "it doesn't matter if people are fake, and life is hard... if you can 'delude' yourself, and dissociate or distract yourself into feeling better, come join me, we are a lot alike" It may not be 'real' but it is better than wallowing in all the things out there which scare, hurt or upset you. |

| I am nearly positive this must be about Trent... the "started as a joke to see if I could find you" Sounds like someone from her past that she decided to try to contact... and the sound of the song, is a little like, tori infused with a hint of industrial sound.... also the "your heart only beats ones and o's" very resonant of his zero sum.... "all we ever were, just zeros and ones" and if you put the two together, you could almost think he might be thinking of Tori in that song a bit as well... It sounds very regretful. | |
