It's about a girl being good friends with a guy she likes but she's withholding that from him & lying about it because she knows that if she were to tell him the friendship would be ruined. I'm pretty sure it's about starting off your relationship with some sexuuual activity, like hooking up & then growing from there. Like backy said, the song does infact have sexual aspects but I don't think that the relationship itself is just sexual, I think that they're also together because they have no one else. She's making them official, in a relationship- she's telling him almost forcefully that she is, and it's not up to him. She doesn't mind it, but she'd prefer someone else, she knows that he does too and if she doesn't publicize it + officialize it soon then she'll loose him, and she doesn't want to be alone. "It's a pool of boiling wax, I'm getting in Let it set Got to seal this in Can't adjust, Can't relearn Got to keep what I have, preserve" Basically what he's saying is that he's getting into something that feels good & yet has pain but doesn't make a difference/ seals things in, meaning the relationship. He's used to HER, so he can't really get used to another person. He doesn't want to have to start all over, so he's not going to try anything new because he's satisfied with what he has. He won't mess it up, and he won't change anything. "Hot wax has left me with a shine Wouldn't know if I'd been left behind Second skin, second skin" In the end they've added something good to each other, changed each other for the better. I don't know why, but the chorus makes me tear up. I think because of; "Cuz your heart has a lack of color and we should've known... That we'd grow up sooner or later cuz we wasted all our free time alone" Idk, it just makes me feel like when they say that this persons heart has a lack of color... It seems like they're missing something, or they don't have the same ability to love as someone else, and they're never going to really have the full picture in life, like... saying something has a lack of color... says it has a lack of something important... and brilliant and bright, and meaningful... so... that line almost has this intense meaning of all of that... . And I guess it makes me feel like I'm that person..? |

And even though he fell so fast, sometimes he forgets how much he really loves her, but remembers when she's in his arms. "The sun hung from a string looking down on the world as it warms over everything." I have no idea, but maybe he's comparing this to God or fate watching them to make everything good between them (warm)? "Chills run down my spine as our fingers entwine, And your sighs harmonize with mine. Unmistakably, I can still feel your heart beat fast when you dance with me." Even though they're in love, and it seems like a serious relationship- he still has that little kid crush on her that started everything out, and it keeps their love alive. They have the same thoughts, and he enjoys being similar to her. "We got older and I should’ve known (Do you feel alive?) That I’d feel colder when I walk alone (Oh but you’ll survive)" They're growing apart as they're getting older/ growing old of each other. and they're losing the spark that made them feel so alive in their relationship. He's saying he should have known from the beginning that this would happen, they couldn't be perfect together forever. They still want to stay together, and are convincing themselves that they'll survive the boredom/ relationship problems. "So I may as well ditch my dismay. Bombs away, bombs away" Since he knows that they'll survive the issues in their relationship, he's telling himself he should just forget about the problems and pretend they never happened, and try to go back to normal. "Bombs away," Meaning something like 'alright, I can survive this, lets try again.' "Circle me and the needle moves gracefully back and forth, If my heart was a compass, you’d be North" I don't quite understand the "circle me" part, but the needle moving back and forth- referring to a sewing machine, saying that it's the same moment and they'll always come back to each other and they'll always be in love. The compass phrase is one of the cutest things I've ever heard, he's saying that compass' always point North, so no matter what his heart will always lead him back to her. "Risk it all 'cause I'll catch you if you fall." They can risk everything for each other, and trust each other more than anyone because they both know that if something bad happened to the other they'd be there to catch them if anything is wrong. "Wherever you go, if my heart was a house, you'd be home" He's saying that a house can just be a house, a house can't just be a home- it has to become one. A home could be many different places. A camp, a friends house. In this case, she's his home. His shelter, his everything- and it doesn't matter where they are. Separate or together, no matter how far away. "It makes me smile because you said it best, I would clearly feel blessed if the sun rose up from the West" He's happy because she knows & can describe perfectly how they feel for each other and about everything- I'm guessing that some of the lines in this song are quotes of things she said. "Flower balm perfume, all my clothes smell like you, ‘cause your favorite shade is navy blue" The type of perfume she wears rubs off on his clothes (mostly navy blue because that's her favorite shade on him,) "I walk slowly when I’m on my own (Do you feel alive) Yeah, but frankly I still feel alone (Oh but you’ll survive)" He's sad and lifeless when he's without her, but just thinking about her makes him feel alive- but still alone. This song is so cute, and it makes me so happy. It reminds me of the movie 500 Days of Summer, like what Tom wants his & Summer's relationship to be like. Anyone agree? (: "You're the bird, I'm the worm and it's plain to see, that we were meant to be." I think that throughout the song Adam shows & sets up this perfect image of being in love, and being perfect with someone. In this phrase he shows that birds & worms are pretty much enemies, considering birds eat worms. That shows that the people who are in love wouldn't be the kind of people who would fall for the other, "With fronds like these, well, who needs anemones" Anemones= enemies. Meaning, they're meant to be and they look past the fact that they're laid out to be enemies. |

I can't really decide if I like this version or the original better, I've been an Owl City fan since their first album so I appreciate and understand all of their work. When this is said, I think that their in between a relationship and being friends, and they don't know what they really want to be, but they both know that if they want to, they could let themselves fall in love with each other. |
