| The Magnetic Fields – I Thought You Were My Boyfriend Lyrics | 13 years ago |

My favorite part of the song is the thinly veiled threat at the end of the bridge. "Some guys have a beer and they'll do anything. A-n-y-t-h-i-n-g." The repetition of the one word shows the intent. "I'll show you!" We threaten, when we are scared. We threaten, when we are losing control. |

It's about my best friend, Ryan and his wife. Nuff said. His wife is not a fan of the band. |

| She Swings, She Sways – Even So Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This song is my epitaph. Hopefully. In a nutshell, it's about the futility of fighting with God. Also, it chronicles my (somewhat) ongoing battle with painkillers. I sometimes contemplate changing the line "I have slapped You, in your face" to "I have put You, in your place." but I think I like the cringe-worthiness of the original line. I am the only Christian in this band. The rest of them are all going to roast in hell. Especially Troy. |

| She Swings, She Sways – Evelyn's Green Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This song has several different levels. Evelyn's Green is a small park in Dublin - where I lived and worked as a youth pastor for a year. It is also adjacent to a rather large catholic school for girls. On the odd day that it wasn't raining too hard, I would grab a bottle or two of red wine and take them to the park, where I would recline on the grass. It seemed a bit like heaven to me. So this song is actually about a man and woman who meet up when they are young and in the first verse, the man wants to take his woman to the literal "Evelyn's Green," that is, the park. In the second verse, she's older and in the hospital, and the husband is trying to put her mind at ease with fond memories of their time spent on Evelyn's Green. And of course, in the third verse I left it open as to which of the two is actually saying "lay down, it's getting much harder to breathe." Because I thought that it was interesting. For anyone who gives a rat's ass, the song was originally in a different key. Also, the band tends to play this song WAAAAYYYYY too fast (my own fault, I start the song off by myself) when we play it live. We are deathly afraid of ballads, I suppose. As always, thank you for listening and thanks for caring enough to write up the lyrics. |
