This song is a struggle behind a lovestruck Dave and a religious woman he loves. He believes he's reached the divine through love while she puts a cap on human love and believes worshiping a god is the purest love. He's claiming she hasn't experienced the deepest love possible. He wants to expose her. "Save your sermons for someone who's afraid to love." Don't preach to me. I immerse myself in love so I don't need religion to experience something deeper. "If you knew what I feel then you couldn't be so sure." If you could experience this affection you wouldn't rely on your religion for a spiritual experience. "I'll be right here lying in the hands of God." I've reached a divine experience through my love for you. "If you never flew why would you cut the wings off a butterfly." If you never experienced this kind of love why would you restrict me. |

| Awesome interpretation. A lot of people are neglecting the line "save your sermons for someone that's afraid to love." He's clearly rejecting the religious interpretation of God and claiming he's found spiritual enlightenment from another source - love. | |
