It sounds to me like the guy is in love with a girl and he is wondering how she feels about him. He hasn't SEEN her in a long time and I think it sounds like he is missing her and he is feeling confused. Maybe the "seaside" is where they fell in love. He is still in love with her. He wants to go back and experience that again and/or start over with her on the "seaside". He asks her if she wants to go. Maybe they are tired of the "slight of hand" situation. But, maybe that was their only option for expressing their feelings for each other for awhile. That's why he sings that he is just trying to love her, anyway that he can. Maybe it is difficult for them both when they are far apart. Because obviously at one point they were very close. I hear fragility and weariness in his voice. I love the singer for this. They were in love before and he is missing her. No matter the outcome, it sounds to me like they really just need to SEE each other, to feel better. I think they need to go back to the see-side. |

Totally agree with you, except I think they are in love. And will be forever. I love Will Ferrell and Dave Grohl's version, too. :-) |
