I think it's about living through life's trials and tribulations, and how there are people that will constantly try to tear you down, but how in the end how to stand tall and show that you're okay. when the song refers to "burning our house down" it could mean that some things can really strike you deep, but somewhere deep down there is still some type of inner strength that could help to pull you through ("Somewhere weakness is our strength... My pain and all the trouble caused/No matter how long/I believe that there's hope/Buried beneath it all, and/Hiding beneath it all, and/Growing beneath it all, and..."). but thats just what i got out of it, take it or leave it =] |

ok this song is definitely about Alex having a one night stand and he ends up loving the girl and wanting to marry her. i do deeply wish that there was a deeper meaning or a sweeter meaning to this song cause its awesome but there isnt. look: "He woke up from dreaming and put on his shoes Started making his way past Two in the morning He hasn't been sober for days" --he's been partying and stuff in Vegas (cause the songs are tied together) "Leaning now into the breeze Remembering Sunday, he falls to his knees They had breakfast together But two eggs don't last Like the feeling of what he needs" --since he's been so drunk, he's just now remembering the morning after the one night stand (saturday night), when they sort of hung out and got to know one another, possibly adding on to how the guy falls in love with her. but the guy actually wants her love, not just to hang out. "Now this place seems familiar to him She pulled on his hand with a devilish grin She led him upstairs She led him upstairs Left him dying to get in" --they guy is walking around and finds places that remind him of the night they shared together. possibly that night she played and teased him some, thus "left him dying to get in" the room so he could be with her "Forgive me, I'm trying to find my calling I'm calling at night I don't mean to be a bother But have you seen this girl? She's been running through my dreams And it's driving me crazy, it seems I'm gonna ask her to marry me" --the guy is trying to find the girl. he realizes he is in love with her, he keeps thinking about her, so he wants to find her and marry her "Even though she doesn't believe in love He's determined to call her bluff Who could deny these butterflies? They're filling his gut" --talking about the whole one night stand thing. she doesnt believe in love, or she doesnt want to admit that she loves him back. the guy is thinking that there is no way possible that she doesnt feel the same way that he does for her. "Waking the neighbors, unfamiliar faces He pleads though he tries But he's only denied Now he's dying to get inside" --he's desperate to find her now. he goes around asking people if they have seen her but apparently no one has. "The neighbors said she moved away Funny how it rained all day I didn't think much of it then But it's starting to all make sense Oh, I can see now that all of these clouds Are following me in my desperate endeavor To find my whoever, wherever she may be" --as he's talking to people, he finds out that the girl moved away. its ironic how it rained all day, symbolizing his sad and depressed mood. he is starting to realize that he's probably not going to find her; the future doesnt look bright for him because he's not going to find her, hence the clouds following him (symbolizing his sadness again). Juliet: "I'm not coming back (Forgive me) --she's not going to see him again I've done something so terrible --she left him without saying why I'm terrified to speak (I'm not calling, I'm not calling) --she's scared to call him or talk to him But you'd expect that from me --since it's a one night stand, she doesnt see how she could possibly be in love with him and vice versa I'm mixed up, I'll be blunt (You're driving me crazy) --but maybe she really did fall in love with him but she doesnt want to admit it Now the rain is just washing you out of my hair And out of my mind --in the above stanzas when its raining when she leaves, she could be referring back to that. the rain is helping her to forget about him Keeping an eye on the world --this experience had taught her lessons (to not just fool around with anybody, be careful who you mess with/get involved with, etc) From so many thousands of feet off the ground I'm over you now I'm at home in the clouds, towering over your head" --she's in a plane leaving him. she feels comfortable there, being so high up and away from people and other troubles she may have, this thought may empower her to be stronger and get over the guy faster the girl does not die, or get kidnapped, or anything like that. she simply left without a word when the guy thought they had something special |

i think this song is abt being young and wanting to do everything while at this young age. u have these plans and dreams but they just dont turn out how u want them to be. when he says "when you got what i got what i got, who needs air?" i think that he means that he is thankful for all he has and what he's done, and he's content with it so he doesnt need the luxury of breath, of living. then as he's growing up he still want to accept the fact that he's growing up so he still does these wild and crazy things. but he makes mistakes growing up and has to learn from them ("Like a wave on the rocks the lessons crash down on me"). he has to find out who he really is from these lessons, but he has to make mistakes to do this, so he continues doing dangerous things. "Take me down to the river like a little child, Take my hand and tell me its okay to be wild. I never knew the world until I saw through your eyes, I never knew my self until I ripped off my disguise." this whole verse i think is abt him being on the verge of adulthood. "Take me down to the river like a little child, Take my hand and tell me its okay to be wild," he's talking to his parents, like he's still a child, and he wants to saty that way. he is denying the responsibilities he needs to take on as an adult. "I never knew the world until I saw through your eyes, I never knew my self until I ripped off my disguise," but he finally accepts it. he never realized the hardships that adults go through until he became one. he's throwing away his childish facade and taking on adulthood. thats just my opinion. there are many ways to interpret these lyrics, and this is how i take it. feel free to accept or reject it as u please =] |
