The Innocence Mission – Bright As Yellow Lyrics 15 years ago
I have interpreted this song as seeing a type of person, a woman in particular, and wishing to be like them. I've felt that the speaker is feeling small and dull and unidentifying with her gender. When seeing a woman who is feminine and bright and outgoing, the speaker longs to have that same brightness within her without being dolled up and stereotypically girly. The speaker simply wants to assert herself. Maybe I'm project here, I dunno.

Straylight Run – Existentialism on Prom Night Lyrics 15 years ago
Man, I've been going through an existential crisis these days [and prom's just around the corner ;)]. Maybe it's relevant to high school because after four years of a screwed up social and political system, you come to realize that it's all insignificant. Uuugh, it gets really intense at parties.

The Shins – Kissing the Lipless Lyrics 16 years ago
This is my ex-lover's favorite song by The Shins. So not only does it make me think of him, it expresses exactly how I feel.

Belle & Sebastian – Piazza, New York Catcher Lyrics 16 years ago
So wow. I've figured it out [in my mind at least]. The narrator is a man in love with the catcher, Piazza. He's his little secret. And he just wants to elope with him.

Belle & Sebastian – Piazza, New York Catcher Lyrics 16 years ago
Perhaps the narrator is making this figurative baseball allusion because he is actually gay, but in love with this girl. But actually gay. Or maybe Miss Private is a man. I really wonder what "limping round on pagan holidays" is supposed to mean....

Belle & Sebastian – Piazza, New York Catcher Lyrics 16 years ago
I think the best part of this song is it never says what the exact status of the relationship is. It's a real love song because it's not just "I love you. I looooooove youuuu." It has substance and a story and even some deeply back-storied baseball references. And through the kind of out-pour of words and endless string of thoughts, you get an understanding of how he really feels about Walk-Away Renee [heh].

Metric – Help, I'm Alive Lyrics 16 years ago
ZOMBIESSSSSS!!!!1!

You're all way over interpreting this. Sometimes people get inspired about things like running from zombies or secret agent men and they just write a song about it. And maybe that's not what it's actually about, but that's the metaphor for how she's feeling. Great writers do shit like create completely disassociated images and settings to say something without.....saying it. John Donne and Shakespeare are all over that.
