Possibly that progressive generations become more alien to one another and tainted by the world, more distant that close through new technology, and frustrated with the world as it is presented by the media, but still clinging to some hope. |

To me this song feels like it's a relationship in which neither of the people can be fully honest with each other and just pretend because it's convenient that way, regardless of the truth. Also, it could be too painful to break up and admit they aren't fulfilled, so they'll just keep up the charade. |
