Tune-Yards – Bizness Lyrics 14 years ago
I think the first verse is saying Hey I know your ex really really hurt you badly, but I'm not him/her, and you should give me a chance to love you. Maybe there's someone about you that reminds him/her of the ex. The second verse I thinks is you trying to figure out what the ex did to him/her. The third verse is you trying to get him/her to trust you, and saying you'll go beyond where the ex would not... The chorus is a conversation between the two of you. He/she is saying "Don't take my life away" because a bad break up can feel like a death, and he/she doesn't want to die again.

Lady GaGa – Americano Lyrics 14 years ago
It's really in Italian folk/pop style more than anything. I really don't understand why the hell she said it's Mariachi, it's not at alll. The intro part is completely lifted from another song, "Mambo Italiano," by Rosemary Clooney, if you don't believe me go look on youtube. It also sounds to me like she' saying "languagoso." The singing in Spanish mostly threw me, since it's very much in Italian style. The harmonies and the fact that it's in a minor mode are all indicative of Italian folk roots mixed with Italian-American pop of the 50s and 60s.

Regina Spektor – Laughing With Lyrics 16 years ago
I think that what she's trying to get out is how God can be perceived. First, she lists all of the situations that people find themselves in when they need God the most, at his most serious. They don't need a happy, laughing God, they need one that'll get them through whatever crisis. Then, she goes on to say how he can be funny: either made fun of in a joke, ranted about by zealots or treated as a magician with a quick fix. I think she's contrasting two of the more distinctly opposite views of God, one being that he is a being who can be drawn upon for strength during a tough situation and the other being a light hearted, almost comical, wisp of a being. She's probably doing this to illustrate the complex nature, idea or perception of God. I don't think she's necessarily making an argument for or against the existence of God, nor is she condemning people who may not believe in a higher being. Simply, I think she is examining different perceptions. When she says "We're all laughing with God," it could just mean that we all create our own comfortable view of God and that no one's really mocking him.
