Slightly Stoopid – This Joint Lyrics 15 years ago
I think he's relating their weed with their music. Gettin their music from Cali, but playin it up in Philly...Original cuttin the beat.
It's true, real, and good. "no artificial flavor".

"Now they say they come playing, really
And I really need to hear it
You now that we would not get near it"

He doesn't smoke or jam or live to get stupid and tune OUT, like most people do, he does it to get IN tune with life and get in tune with his music, and only gets slightly stoopid, not fully...

Busta Rhymes – Gimme Some More Lyrics 15 years ago
Stealth2000's onto something. HOODZ and jimhushpup...tsk tsk.

I think the name "flipmode" probably originated by these rhymers who had rough childhoods but flipped it around to become successful rappers.

as a shorty I fell down and bumped my head...Somebody helped me up and asked me if I bumped my head. I said, "Yeah." So then they said, "Oh, so that means you're gon', you're gon' switch it on 'em....

For dumb white people like me and jimmy hushpup, i think this means: as a kid busta rhymes had a rough family life, home was where he almost lost it (bumped his head)...he finally meets a crew that's been through the same shitty home life but they're "flipping" it around, turning their once thought of as "shitty" life into platinum records.

Trevor Hall – The Lime Tree Lyrics 16 years ago
If god=love then i could see it about being finding god.

"we will last past the final round" ...I think he's saying we live on after death
And parallel to the city streets....parallel and similar to life we live now
Our broken crowns beneath our feet....being pure soul after we die, we're above our "broken crowns" or our old worldly minds/ ego's ...

and maybe hiding in the lime tree means he was hiding in the idea of that conjugal love asdcsgf was talking about...
but was it isolating him? or is that what it took for him to finally be found?

wow you can hear knives...that is freaky. I hear like an uncorking sound then something being poured too. I think we're all in the wolf. Homme sings us his Lullabies to paralyze the beast so he can cut us out into the real world.

Veil of Maya – Your World Of Lies Lyrics 16 years ago
These are some neat lyrics. Seems like alot of Jesus-following people tell me how he 'died for me'...how i'm a sinner and i'm lucky he saved me...yet instead of feeling uplifted, i feel guilty and ashamed of who i am. then i look at their little bumper sticker that reads: "WWJD?" And i wonder...would Jesus want to give us a guilt trip? Shame us into some obligated feeling of peace? Or would he help us each find our unique truth that lifts us up?

The lyrics "his blood was shed, its nothing but a fairy tale, some ink on a page..."

I think by fairy tale it means that its literally just a story.
or
By fairy tale it means look at it metaphorically: Writers sometimes say they 'bled ink on a page', maybe the writers of the bible noticed how Jesus would endlessly write and journal, deep from his heart all his knowledge he had, painfull deep writing. So the Bible writers say that he "shed his blood for mankind".

Aesop Rock – 1,000 Deaths Lyrics 16 years ago
I also think Aesop analyzes humans and their weird relations. Like in Bent Life: "I've studied the disorders we've absorbed inside the village" Plus how he always refers to a "social coma"...
the line: "Buried in leagues of please, thank you, pardon, excuse me
Your welcome, may I? ohh, I'd like to die, but no you may not"
I think he's describing being around those overly-nice people who are ultra proper and formal, always showing the facade. you can never relax cuz its like your in a constant business meeting or something. I'd like to die, no you may not!

Aesop Rock – 1,000 Deaths Lyrics 16 years ago
I dont see how "and I apologize for you and yours For kicking your fantasies overboard" relates to no afterlife...

"I have died a thousand deaths, and I apologize for you and yours
For kicking your fantasies overboard
I mean I'm only one servant, MAKING one hell of a diversion
And if the masses have agreed THEN split the sea AND let it bleed"

Life's ups and downs. Lifes setbacks. you feel alive for a week, then life comes around and tears you down, metephorically killing you the next week. Next week your new and fresh. Just like how a tree dies every winter, then comes back by spring, ready for some more growth. So we each die 1,000+ deaths in our lifetime, we can take the deaths and rebirths as natures design to help us grow, or we can kick our fantasies overboard...Aesop is a servant to mother nature, making one hell of a diversion from societys views on life and its meaning, so if the masses agree to this philosophy of how life works (death and birth, sad to happy, blind to clarity), that pain is part of the growth process, then split the sea and let it bleed!

Aesop Rock – Night Light Lyrics 16 years ago
The first sentence is a little off, and its a good one:
"Put one-up for shackle-me-not clean logic procreation..."

...as in: props to making babies with true love, not that shackled, desperate and dependent kind of infatuation...Or maybe its a one-up to parents who raise their kids as individuals with their own life and dont shackle them down due to the parents' own insecurities...or maybe i'm just an asshole.

So Day vs Night, what is the comparison? help/hinder fix/destroy?

At the Drive-In – Arcarsenal Lyrics 16 years ago
Alright so here we are, the songmeaning analyzers, endlessly trying to get into the heads of these artists and know WTF they are singing about...
So in my opinion that shows me that artists are like a different breed of human. Enlightened, if that describes well enough. They're concerned with the world (politics, revolutions, and that killer Dalmer dude) but at the same time they're aware of their own inner world and all the interesting phases and changes we go thru as humans. We can have revolutions within ourselves, arguements, politics, and i guess even kill ourselves Dalmer-style...
You know Cedric Bixler has got to be way deep and complex in his views of the world and his own existence within this world. So! I think this song is about the struggle we all go thru to be cool with life, ourselves, nature and its crazy workings.
ArcArsenal... i think refers to the metaphoric 'weapons and defenses' we create to protect ourselves from having to live and learn from life. (like how drug addicts use drugs to avoid thoughts and feelings or how people refuse to accept the love and help of other people for whatever reason).

must have read a thousand faces
must have robbed them of their cause
sickened thirst, sickened thirst
keeps it together
soft white glow in the cranium
a bulls eye made sedated

( I think this part is about being young in our thinking- where we read peoples faces, judge them by their appearence, ect., you rob them of their cause and dignity. Its a way to quench our own 'sick thirst' to be accepted by others and have a good reputation, i.e. ego maniac. This sickened thirst for approval keeps it all together, a hard to pinpoint mindset (soft white glow in the cranium, bullsey/sedated))
beware

must have read a thousand faces
and all these voices won't give up
sickened thirst, sickened thirst
glues it together
a catatonic leisure
at 1000 miles per hour

(All these inner politics and mental jury's judging people wont give up, that same old ego thirst keeps it glued together. You notice pretty much everyone else lives this way and calls it 'leisure' but you can feel that its a catatonic lifestyle, thoughts and worries @ 1k mph...)
(This is where people finally start to change, grow, and realize there is a better way of life, but this takes alot of self trust...and its easy to fall victim to others' oppression, so cedric says beware)

beware(trust thyself young grasshopper)

so who's in charge here
barking out loud so clear
because i'd really like to meet him
(You grow aware of yourself and your thoughts and reactions, and you realize this judgemental, worrisome mindset we have isnt our own, but is our conditioned/learned way of thinking from a judgemental worrisome society.)

uproar east, strike west
(this is where Cedric refers to the spiritually enlightened peaceful lifestyle common in the east (think buddhism) uproars and overpowers the materialistic, disconnected, and competitive stressed lifestyle of the West, or where the East/right side of the brain associated with creativity and feeling, overpowers the West/Left side associated with logic and rationality...Balance! YinYang!)

have you ever tasted skin
sink your, sink your teeth in
(This you now realize is your true self, the first time you've ever been in your own skin, with all your feelings and aspects of your personality...the first 'taste'. Sink your teeth in, cause this is good.)
So this is just a possible meaning, more focused around the inner world of a person. Let me know what you guys think.

Aesop Rock – Labor Lyrics 16 years ago
...spittin bedlam= i guess 'bedlam' was some name given to a hospital turned insane asylum.

Actual lyrics:
Fantastic planet urchin putting work in
Searching for pertinent verse minus the murderous diversions
Apologies won't lure me to the communal sob story
nor would I sacrifice live style to benefit jury temperament

I think that means 100% human, awake and walking around with the rest of sleeping society, looking for the ultimate soul-freeing understanding (pert. verse) while avoiding the bullshit murderous diversions...(think: co-dependency) such as the communal apologetic sob story(dwelling on your sadness for attention/affection or whatev) or stuffing your originality and style for fear of being judged...thus benefiting jury temperament).

F that critical jury in the brain.
Put your work in fellow urchins, find your unique pertinent verse and watch out for the murderous diversions.

Brushing dust mites off your starborn all revolution sound jugglers... anyone know what this means?
I notice Aesop Rock uses alot of the same metaphors in his songs. Centipede, earthworm, urchin, dust mite, dirty destiny.....what do they represent...hmmmmmmmmmmmm

This for the thinkers
Yea i bought the lyric book ya'll are right:
I take 10 steps with a bent left vision
Study the disorders we've absorbed inside the village
I understand the plagues and why they shake hands with my grimace
and remain up in my face like top to bottom train car fill-ins

Sleep with one eye open while the other two drift
together specimens from the promise land....
Pry open that third eye...

memorable troop v.s. lab rat on the run...?

Aesop Rock – Odessa (feat. Doseone) Lyrics 16 years ago
Aesop the brain tease. Anyone have any ideas? Odessa's some place in Ukraine where some Jews were massacred...(wiki)

(I fixed some of the lyrics)
My zero hour snuffed doc, where the marked the day the mirth burns
The time alotted, knotted loops around the plot. It boycotted the wattages, toys for the prodding of the rotting bottled hostage,
Once i doubt-filed me under useless playtime trinket think it smirked worthy well, your with me, from the icicle sweat to the self pity
Sickly thread bare slid back my needle point life willow, man I purposely spun straw to gold to lace each last stitch perfectly

His big kick off snuffed out on the day that 'mirth burns' or when laughter starts to hurt...Time consumes you and clings to your plot, your sob story. It boycotts the 'wattages' (your electricity your power)...and all that stress acts as toys that prod your little world. A rotting bottled hostage. (Like a pickled egg)
Then you file yourself as 'useless'. Your new self label of 'useless' smirks well as you try to relate to friends. Cold nervous sweat and self pity...

shit i dunno but i wanna know! I need to hear some new angles all i've got are these emotional meanings..

Anybody have any thoughts??

Aesop Rock – Appleseed Intro Lyrics 16 years ago
"pannin for gold" "nah pannin for
chance to land in camps branded with
"push" stamped on their hand" lets
push. lets push up through the
now, lets evoke a vow of
zipped lips clipped to my peaking
brow (i'm sleeping now)....

I think Aes is referring to those strange new-agey approaches to living a happy life. Desparate people clinging to superficial phrases like: "living in the now" and "universal oneness" to find meaning in their life...its almost become a fad and seems kind of cult like. Reminds me of the Landmark program...Strange self help groups/camps that dont allow much room for finding each individuals potential and answering questions, they seem to disallow thinking and keep it superficial in that "Be Happy Now!" "fake it till' you make it" style stuff...
So when he says "lets evoke a vow of zipped lips clipped to my peaking brow" it reminds me of how those desparate people react to that forced hush of their intuitive questioning. So they zip their questions but still hold that "peeking brow" of worry and paranoia, wondering what others think...yet allowing themselves to believe they're finally "happy!" and living in the "Now!" but really...they're sleeping now...asleep to their heart and self growth.

i seen immaculate hearts blemished
under the mass of genie bottle
hostages who wish that a
third to her broken promises.

So many kids full of potential seeking happiness fall victim to the influence of people stuck hostage to the "genie bottle" mindset, where they believe if they wish hard enough...focus hard enough...the Law of Attraction will bring them happiness...

In my opinion, depression is a blessing in disguise, trying to show you something is out of balance in your life. People fear looking into these sad feelings; thinking and feeling their way thru the muck back into the light...so that fear makes them view any negative feeling as threatening and toxic...when really its a blessing in disguise. Like an appleseed sprouting up thru the darkness, its up to us to nurture it thru all seasons so we can finally eat its sweet fruit! :) Little spiritual/emo but bare with me. What do you all think?

but i dont understand "who wish that a third to her broken promises"...any ideas on that?
