| The "corruption" of church isn't anything new. Today's society has just followed the footsteps of many. There are countless stories of it throughout history. This song just is along the lines of what can be done when its gone to far and nothing but total destruction can fix it. | |

This song and any of Thrice's songs aren't just about a specific topic or mood(in this case a certain corruption of a certain entity). They have never tried to preach any Christianity. This song is about watching what you once loved turn into something you can't stand and it gets to the point where the suffering must end and the truth of corruption must be released. I believe it is delivered in this tone because when you must kill that which you have loved and is as much a part of you as your heart, you will most likely lose control of yourself, your emotions. It becomes a struggle and you must fight every voice in your head saying "You wouldn't kill that what you love" or something along those lines. There are of course biblical references in Dustin's writing but that doesn't mean they are preachy. Christianity like other religions aren't about forcing it upon others and don't teach you to tell someone they are wrong. The Bible itself shouldn't be looked at as a religious tool but rather a tool for morality. Inside you know whats wrong and whats not. |
